I need some help from the experts. I am having trouble deciding on a Ruger Blackhawk 41mag with 6.5" barrel or a Taurus Tracker 44mag with a 4" barrel. I will be using it as my primary gun for Eastern whitetails(NY) and maybe hogs. I currently have a Blackhawk in 357mag and really like the gun and shoot it well but the Taurus looks so nice. Using 50yd limit, will a whitetail know the difference? My concern is ammo availability(factory loads) and bullet performance out of the different barrel lengths. Thanks for any help Warren

I'd go with the Ruger Blackhawk myself. I like the longer barrel length. I'm not a big Taurus fan so I reckon I'm prejudice.

not an expert but... .41 ammo isn't as easy to find (in La.) as it used to be but I find the internet makes up for it if you don't mind ordering. I'd take a ruger over a taurus every time. P.S. I know you asked about factory ammo but if you do (or decide to) reload, I'd say get the .41 (again), no question. hope this helps

Ruger 41 over the Taurus for me. I am a 41 fan and have used that caliber extensively. I also prefer Ruger over Taurus.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

GO WITH THE RUGER 41 I HAVE SEVERAL 41'S YOU CAN'T HAVE TOO MANY AND THE DEER WILL NEVER KNOW A 41 JUST DROPPED THEM.

Between the 41 or the 44, I would pick the 44. Between the Taurus and Ruger, I would pick the Ruger without hesitation. All that being said I would go with the Ruger in the 41 Magnum between the two. Like previously stated a whitetail will never know the difference.

Ruger everytime and twice on Sundays, over a Tarus. But for the distance you are talking, with the right bullet your 357 should handle the deer.

The Ruger over the .... well that other piece of metal they try to pass off... ah never mind. I'd go with the Ruger in 41 and never look back.

I agree w/Cottonstalk. Under 50 & you don't need the 41/44. But if you want one?! Your going to want to shoot farther at some point.

I'm a long-time .44 hunter for big eastern whitetails. But given the two choices that you gave, the Blackhawk gets the nod. There are a number of heavy .41 caliber factory thumpers specifically for big game hunting to choose from, all more than adequate for the purpose.
Incidentally, I hunt with a 6 1/2" Blackhawk, so I am definately playing favorites here!

Warren, this is the part where the ref steps in, waves his arms and mercifully stops the beating one guy (Ruger) is giving to the other (Taurus).

I would look at the Ruger first...
However... having 3 44mags, I would still look at the 41...
Another posterior in the crowd... IMHO
