The person in charge of the design of the Striker factory stock was obviously a bench shooter with gorilla hands. I'm no midget but I could barely get my fingertips to touch my thumb, much less a full grip around the handle. I curse the Encore, but the Savage is worse. It is amazing how much just grinding in finger grooves reduced the circumference of the grip, but I also removed a lot from the backstrap and sides. It feels like a 45ACP hi-cap now.
The lines of the factory stock force your wrist and trigger finger to come from below the handle at an angle, as from bent elbows on the bench. This is not conducive to shooting off-hand or from a field rest with the gun extended from your body as in hunting conditions. Those lines had to be changed so I straightlined the stock from front to back so your hand can get a high grip, just like a 1911, and your trigger finger plane is along line of sight. Along with the single-point sling, tensioned correctly, this gives a very steady off-hand platform.

Again, this gun was obviously designed from ground up for the bench. The forend is long and fat, for bags, and the receiver area is overkill so I shaved about 3/16" from each side from stem to stern. The flatter sides make it much more friendly to carry, and perhaps lightened it a bit but that is secondary. The flat sides allow you to get a standard two hand "hunting" hold. Same grip that I use on Bisley, thumbs overlapped.

I chopped 4" off the forend and bondo'd in a Schnable, only because I got a soft spot for Schnables. Also removed a bunch from the base of the grip, all that mass reminded me of a Hi-Point 40 S&W. Anyway, I just wanted to share what I think was one of the downfalls of the Striker, the very thing you hold on to, and perhaps a solution. It works for me, maybe not for everyone. I am going to get a few duplicated for myself, if anyone else might be interested let me know.

Nice work Rod. That looks like something I coul comfortably shoot. I have had a couple of them and never really got to where I loved them. Maybe if I had known you back then I might still have them.

Yepper.....that's her. The grip is very close to the HS Precision XP stock.

I like the grip mods, and I have thought of doing something with mine. Just a light slimming and maybe a hint of finger grooves. I like the large forend, but my shooting technique is different from yours. I use bi-pods and a shorter grip as I have a rifle scope on it. I guess more of a bench style gun.

When you say that you are going to get a few duplicated, what material are you going to use? Laminate?

From the conversations we have previously had concerning Encore grips, I have to say Bravo Zulu! I think you can be more consistent and ultimately more accurate if your tool fits you!!

I am debating between laminates and wood. Gonna have to find out about cost first.

If you like a long forend I know a guy who is having one of his stocks repro'd, that he did a grip reduction on. I just may buy a couple of his and then reshape the top end like I like. Here is one example:

Me too, I own 4 strikers and have always thought about some type of custom grip but couldn't find any. That is one great looking stock , a true professional look

Yes I'm interested, the long forend would be nice. Even if left rough I could finish to my liking. Not that the factory stock isn't working, but I love the colored laminates.... and who want's an ugly gun when it can look dashing with some color. Might even shoot faster. LOL<LOL

I talked to Joel Russo over a year ago and he wasn't doing Striker stocks yet but was interested. Have you heard of Joel?

Yep, I know who Joel is. You know who Neal is too, Dale. That's whos stock the picture is of, and who is behind this project. This isn't a retail thing, more pieces will dilute the cost of setup tho. The cost isn't etched in stone but it looks like it will be significantly less than the others out there.

i also did so sanding on my striker, my grip looks alot like yours. fits my short fat fingers alot better now.

I have heard a rumor that Joel should have his striker pattern soon, so look for his new stock maybe early summer.
