The BisHunter Project continues…. with very pleasing results

The Beginning. 45 Colt SBH Bisley Hunter, Weaver 2x28 Classic scope, LBT 350gr WFN boolit.

This pic is just after I got the gun. Bore is .451, I could not shove a .452 boolit through the cylinders, I added a belt mtn base pin. Load is 350-355gr (with gas check) cast with wheel weights from an LBT custom mould with an 80% metplat, water dropped, sized to .452. over 21gr H110.

Well, I got my hands on a reamer and reamed the throats to .4525. I had gone up to 21.5 gr. H110 in the load and they grouped great in my 4" Redhawk. I went to the range today with 12 at 21gr and 12 at 21.5gr and here's how they shot. I'm pretty stoked. This is definitely a shooter!

21gr. Much better! The first 3 shots at 25yds blew my mind! 25 and 50yds

Now for the 21.5gr load. Wow, mission accomplished! 25 and 50 yds.

I've found the load…. 355gr Hammer lubed with my homemade beeswax/vaseline/??? lube , 21.5gr H110, Starline brass, CCI 350, nice firm crimp.

Next time to the range I'll get the scope dialed in and when it warms up I'll get the crony out and see what they do. Did I say I'm pretty stoked
\:D
What fun getting this thing dialed in.

The Weaver 2X is an awesome scope for the Hunter model guns. I love mine!

You may be able to tweak that load tighter. My .45LC shoot a 340gr Penn into less than 1.5" at 50yds and it's bone stock!!

Dan I shoot a 250 XTP in my Bisley 45 at about 1,5" CTC at 50 and 3" or so at 100 with the 2X weaver scope. Mine has the base pin Power Custom Pawl and Wolf Springs. Mine is the blue gun w /the leupold base.

I shot my 44 today at the range and did a 3" 12 shot grop at 100 same set up only the 44 has a 2X Leupold that was with 240 XTP's

All over 2400 w/ CCI--350's

I had a Hunter Bisley that shot almost as good but I just did not like the balance of that gun.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

This boolit has a huge metplat. It's almost a wadcutter. I'm kinda surprised it groups as good as it did at 50yds. Here it is on the left next to a Cast Performance 360gr.

Snyd, that is some great shooting!
I have the Ruger Hunter in the regular grip with a 2x6 Simmons on mine. I have been shooting the Beartooth 300 grn WFN Gas Check bullets with 21 grn of H110. I never got any groups like yours and have been wondering if I needed to go up in bullet weight or shape. I'm going to try and find some bullets in 350grn something like the ones you are making and try them. I know the gun should shoot better. Thanks for the info on your loads.

Snyd My .45 Bisley Hunter likes the 330 gr.WFNGC 22gr. H110.Some 2 1/2" groups at 100yds. Also 250gr. Gold-Dot 24gr H110.Try shooting with standard base pin and the Belt Mountain pin mine shoot better with standard pin.Pin has never come out.

It sounds like yours is a 45 Colt as well? Have you reamed the throats? It made a big difference on both of my 45 Rugers. You could also try bumping up the load. 21gr H110 is Hogdon max load for a 360gr Cast Performance. 21 for the 300 seems a little light.

Thanks BisleyBud, I'll try it with the stock pin next time out. I also have some 360gr CP loads. Plus a bunch of other boolits including some 335's and I've got a Lyman 325gr mould coming. I'll be hunting black bear this spring and moose this fall and if opportunity presents itself I'd shoot another griz. That's why I've been concentrating on the Hammer boolit as I call it. It should hit hard and keep going even if I ended up with a raking shot.

Yes I had to have the thoats reamed early on so the 330gr.WFNGC would fit.Take a look on the Bragging Board to see what the 45LC Bisley Hunter can do in Africa.I used the Punch bullet on the Wildebeest total pass thru.

BisleyBud, wow. Nice job there on the handgun hunts. That gets me pretty excited. I guess I didn't realize (or remember) that you have one of the 279 45 Colt Bisley Hunters as well! Hopefully I can get on black bear this spring and moose in the fall. Maybe someday I'll talk myself in to going after Dall Sheep with a handgun. But, it's usually 7-10 days walkin with a heavy pack and if I see a nice ram at 300+ yds that may be the only shot I get! I've got one with a rifle and that was at 400+yds. If I get another one maybe I'll try a Sheep handgun hunt. But for now this newbie will go for bear and moose.
