So Ive been looking for a sidearm to go with my 500 encore. Ive been thinking mostly 44, 45lc, 47linbaugh single action. BUT I just found a for sale locally 4" 500sw and what a beaut!! could shoot same bullets-its huge but short so carriable. It comes with 60-70 loaded rounds, like 100 empties I beleive and a nice leather belt holster $800- what you guys think...new msrp almost 1500,I see going for close to 1k or more on gunbroker and such and thats just the gun.. it is like new with only 100 rounds through or so. Seams like a good deal and trying to rush some funds together---just wanted to hear your guys opinions..

lam,

sounds like you found the companion "belt" gun to the Encore. I've got one and love it. It is a bit on the heavy side for carrying (hiking)up and down the mountains all day; however, you will appreciate the extra weight when you touch it off. The 500s are like the 44s used to be, every "TV/ arm chair cowboy" had to have one, got one, couldn't shoot it for sh......, and are selling them for a song. This is gun for "us", gun nut types. The price is good with all the goodies! See Gregg R's photos on the site, with the 3" 500 he had. The group is excellent. I think Greg has since sold it.

The price sounds right. Even if you don't like it you could sell it for what you gave and move it quickly.

Another random thought would be Trail Boss powder. That should make a decent managable load with a heavy cast bullet and still be very plesant to shoot. Then when stupidity arises.... I MEAN the need for full blown loads you can crank it up with another powder. LOL<LOL

I have the same rig. Same holster and everything.. I've shot it about 70 times already.

I have loaded several of the 385 grain remington slugs and I'm getting good accuracy with a 1 grain below max load of H110.

The ball a fire you hold in your hands when you touch that baby off is mind blowing.... It's awesome..

Good luck with it!

Todd
