Hello everyone, Newbie here & this is my first post on this great site.
I've reloaded a little & have an upcoming hog hunt. I was wanting to load my own but I've just started hunting with a handgun & haven't killed anything with one yet. So here is my question. I was looking a loading a 240gr. Hornady XTP with 23gr. of H110. Does anyone have any experience with this load or any suggestions?

A 240 XTP or Sierra JHC driven by 23 gr. of 296 is a hog killing combo that has served me well for many years. I've used heavier calibers and bullets that do well, but none are really any better.

Welcome Cruiser, The 240 XTP should work fine. I have also had good luck out of 265g Interlocks, 300g XTPs and 310g Cast FNGC if it helps. Let us know how your hunt goes!

Welcome and I agree with your load selection being fine, I'm assuming it's a 44mag from the bullet and load info you gave.

I really like the 300 grain XTP in .44 mag! I works like a charm. I prefer the heavier of the two in the event that you encounter a large boar -- in which case you will be better served with the heavier bullet. I have seen many a light expanding bullet fail to penetrate well on big hogs -- and some not so big. Why not load for the worst case scenario?

Well I got 100 rounds loaded today & shot about 25 of them. I kept them all in a fist sized group at 40 yards with open sights & using an old fence post as a rest. I can already tasted them pork chops!

I use 24 grains of H-110 and a 240 grain XTP in both my 10 inch Contender and SBH. Never had a problem. This is the same load I used on the hog at the left.
