Hello all:

First post, been reading the discussion for a few weeks. I have been hunting whitetails for about 3 years with a 629. I haven't come up with a satisfactory way to carry it over heavy winter clothes (I live in Northern Michigan). I don't have CCW permit so wearing a parka length coat is always a problem. Any suggestions???

Welcome. Is your 629 scoped? If so, I'd suggest a bandito rig from pistol packaging. If unscoped I'd suggest buy a quality crossdraw holster and wear it on an Apex pistol harness. You can get one from Apex Hunter, here on this site. Marty is a super guy and will fix you right up. I hunted with his harness all season this year carrying my 7 1/2" FA and I highly recommend it.

Welcome. Uncle Mikes makes a nice bandalero rig that I use for my M629 and a larger one for my much larger M500. It can used with or without teh protective flap and can be attached at the belt to stop the flop too. Not expensive but useable!

how about a large belt maybe even a cowboy type that is large enough to go around the parka and a plain old holster, plus depending on the belt you can carry your extra ammo in the ammo loops.

i like my holster at my hip, and use a army surplus web belt and harness. puts the weight on both shoulders. its set up for everything that i want. just grab it and go.

Why don't you have a CCW?

Michigan requires hunters to carry open? I don't think we have that limitation here in Virginia. I'd have to go dig a bit to be sure though. But it may be worth checking the laws/regs or calling your local game warden with the question.

I guess you could get one of those tactical rigs that straps to your belt and leg too!

Yes, the Shamrock Bandito rig is the same as the Pistol Packaging rig. The lady that makes the Holsters has stopped going to shows, so a young couple picked up the show circuit and sell the Pistol Packaging holsters under thier compnay called Shamrock. I have a Bandito rig and a few different holsters that go on the Bandito shoulder harness. I like them alot. I have worn them on the outdise and inside of hunting clothes. The belt is adjustable for at least 6".

We have consealed carry here. It's really nice in bad weather.
