I have caught a skunk in a cage trap in the back yard and need to remove it.I live in town and gun fire is not an option at least untill i can get this stinker out of town.I have thaught of a pellet gun but fireing even one of them would be a problem if caught and i do not want to risk the skunk spraying.Any suggestions?

This is a problem! They make special enclosed SKUNK box traps that would stop you from getting sprayed, but hindsight is 20/20. Try putting a tarp over the trap, but be careful, the skunk is going to SPRAY. If you could do this, you should be able to move the trap somewhere you can shoot the skunk. Or call your county animal control.

You can walk up to it with a blanket/sheet and talk to the skunk like it was your best friend. After you put the blanket over the trap submerse the trap in water. The skunk has to set its back legs to spray. When you put it in water it can't set those legs. I have a friend that is a trapper. That is what he does anyway.

wait till it calms down then put a old blanket over it. you can then move the hole thing as long as you dont throw it around to much. we relocate skunks like this from time to time.

Put tarp or large box over it and then a hose from the tailpipe of your truck, nighty night skunk. Sleep=Death=No Spray. Kind of silly but works great when people do it....

I agree with bluecow. I relocated one with this method and it did not spray.

Works well covered the cage with an old coat. Then braught the cage to the tail pipe real carefully. Then turned on the truck and played him a little music he went to sleep piecefully.

I would call the local law enforcement to deal with it or Leave it alone in the trap and it wiil go to sleep then you can put a sneak on it and put a quick dispatch with the pellet gun if you feel like being a little risky! Its hard to get rid of a skunk without them spraying.

The wet blanket and the hose from a shop vac attached to the tail pipe is what we do. Just like Shawn says, humnas have done it to themselves for years. Just had a guy down the street do it 2 weeks ago. I can not fathom what he was thinking????

Sounds good but read the warning: "WARNING: These rounds are powered by the rimfire primer only. They must only be fired in handguns. If fired in rifles, the bullet may remain lodged in the barrel." Hope it don't just "piss" him off!! PUN LOL! Give us a report on your success.

Tail pipe, garden hose and duct tape. Don't forget the duct tape.
It's gonna spray when you shoot it. It won't spray if it goes to sleep. Dead is dead. Some people will complain simply because you are going to kill it. They don't care if it's technically humane.
Or, you can feed it and slowly make friends with it. My child hood pet was a wild skunk that came in the house all the time and didn't spray. Liked cat food and would let us pet it.

I wanna know how this worked out!!?? I placed an old coat over the trap. then moved the trap carefully to the truck. Then piped in exhaust for 30 minutes.the Skunk took the final nape without any stink. I did give him a few rounds with the pellet gun for insurance. I did not want him waking up while i cleaned the trap.
