I recently bought an XP-100 in 260. I am considering having it rebarreled with a McGowen barrel. How long of a barrel should I put on it? I would like to have a muzzle break too. Who would you have do the gunsmith work?

Thanks,
Aaron

rick,

Have you shot the 260? It may surprise you. Mine is a "great" shooter, as it came from the factory. I don't have a brake on mine. It isn't something I felt I needed for that caliber.

+1 to what Doc said. I also have a 20 XP-R and it still wears the unbraked factory tube and it is one of my favorites.

Aaron,
Several good XP's smith's out there for sure.
What cartridge and what specific things do you want to be able to accomplish with your XP?
Will yo be carrying this in the mountains for long distances?
Is it the rear grip XP-10R or the single-shot center-grip (with dogleg bolt handle) XP?
I will assume it is a XP-100R.
Barrel length is a subjective thing. Mine run from 15-18"
Barrel taper is another thing, based upon how you will use it.
I can give a lists of smith's I use if you want them.

X3 on the .260. Got 2, one 'pistol' length (<16) and one 'rifle'(>16) length. Don't use a break on either. If you're going to mount a rifle scope on the XP, then you might want a break to keep the scope from recoiling into your forehead, otherwise, having a break would be a personal thing.
