I have been giving construction of a Handgun Hunters Field Carry Case some thought lately. I even e-mailed Boyt Harness Company, with no response back, then I learned their cases say made in Korea. Probably no need to worry about custom work from them, I would guess. Unless they think we have a viable market anyway.
Tactical Tailor will do a custom project, so I will probably contact them after getting all the bugs out of the design. I have bought several items from them over the years, and they make a quality product, and are normally reasonable on cost.
MY THOUGHTS: for a Large Revolver Case to fit both 7.5 & 9.5" Rugers size. Rectangular 16" Long X 10" Tall X 1.5" Wide
Contender & Encore Case Size: Rectangular 22" Long X 10" Tall X 1.5" Wide
Construction: Construct with an End Flap with FasTex Buckle for Retention on one end (So the case can be opened quietly. Install D Rings on all 4 corners of the long sides. This and the Rectangular shape will make one case useable both Left and Right handed just by changing the sling attachment from one long side to the other. Material: Cordura with foam padding. Color: OD Green works for me Sling: Nothing fancy just long enough and adjustable.
Lets hear your opinions and experiances on a Handgun Hunters Field Carry Case for carrying a Revolver or Single Shot as your primary hunting arm.

Is this what you have in mind? I bought the cases, then modified the straps and added cartridge carriers.

Here is one of the field cases I use for my SP's it can be carried by the shoulder strap or mounted onto a hunting pack. These are made by Quiethide out of southern Minnesota. nmhunter

I have a TC soft case for my 14" Contender. I plan on attaching some nylon webbing for a sling. The only time I case my guns is when its raining, otherwise it is always in hand, ready for action!

Gregg I got the idea after watching your vidio. I have several dings on my scopes from not having the TC cased when it needed to be.
I have a case ot two I could probably modify if I wanted to, but I would still have zippers.
A designed for the mission case would be better I would think.

OK, here's my idea, making it as we speak.
Remember the "Leg of Mutton" shotgun cases out of leather. Yep, that's the ticket. Made out of leather, fleece lined, wet formed over a mold, belted closure, and probably made with backpack style straps for field carry, remove over your shoulder and shoot.
I'll preview a pic when the original is done.

When / if the mutton gets wet, you'll see a whole new meaning to the word "rust". Not trying to be negative, just offering a caution. I've been using regular Cordura gun cases with shoulder straps and some other stuff ever since Gregg first put forth the idea in The Sixgunner 20 years ago. 20 years? We're gettin' older, Gregg...especially me.

Yes, thought of that. Today I saw the "tactical" gun soft cases from Midway and thought they might do the trick, and a lot cheaper.
Don't know, will have to "ponder" this for a while, maybe try one out.

I took a 10/22 soft case and chopped it down and resewed the zipper on so it closes fully. I have yet to add the shoulder straps as I have been meaning to for over a yr, but something that just opened on the end would definitely be more ideal

My original ides was for a: Falp on one end. Rectangular Shape. D Rings on both long sides.
This will let the case be flipped over for Left hand carry. One case for both Left and Right hand shooters.
Wondering, does it need a stiffner on the long narrow sides to keep it stiff when carried with a sling?
Does the plastic buckle sound like a good idea, or do you have a better idea?
