Hello group,
So...I haven't used the .375 win at all in the field and it has just been sitting in my box of bbl's waiting to be taken to the range. I have shot it before (last year) but for the most part it was an interesting bbl but not anything that would be a first choice. I bought it for $50.00 because the last owner tried to glue on a muzzle brake and when he fired it, it (the brake) went down range with the bullet. He cut the bbl down to 12". Anyway he was scared of it and for $50.00 what did I have to loose?? I had a brake installed, bought a bunch of 1/2 full bullet boxes at a local gun shop, a couple of hundred cast bullets for a 38-55, loaded then all up and headed for the range.
100 yards = 1 foot groups with the cast 240 Gr bullets, four different powder loads. I was ready to use it as an anchor for my float tube. Switched over to 220 Hornady's and Sierra's 200 FP. No lie...instant 1" groups...Whoa! I adjusted the scope, a 1 1/2 X 4 Burris, and got it hitting 3" high at 100 yards. It put six shots; 3 - 220 Hornadays and 3- 200 Sierra's in 1" at 100 yards. They shoot to the same POI at 100 yards using IMR4198 and CCI 200 Primers. Now that is a shooter! Four of the shots went in a hole .5". When you consider that the bullet is .375...that's good.
Just for fun I'd loaded up a bunch or .36 caliber Hornady Black Powder pistol round ball's up over some SR 7625 and they hit POA = POI at 30 yards and give a 3" group. Can you say rabbits!
Now this is a serious "go to" bbl when I'm hunting the jungles of West Oregon. I'm going to shoot IHMSA with it next weekend.
