Had a great season in Kentucky. The weather was not as cold as I would have liked it. Very few days of sunshine, mostly drizzle and damp. Saw a huge number of does, had some small bucks chasings does. Last evening of my hunt I was sitting in a brush ground blind watching a creek bed and small corn field. Had a small 6-point chasing a doe back and forth across the field. I put the scope on him several times but decided to let him have his fun and grow up, maybe next year! I set the pistol down and began to glass the edges again, movement out of the ditch to my left caught my eye. After glassing down the left side of the corn field I realized a buck was standing facing me. All I could see was that he had a wide rack and his body was huge. I knew he was just inside the 100 yd range I had measured earlier that afternoon. I placed the pistol on the portable shooting stand and placed the crosshair on his chest. He took a couple of steps angling towards me and I fired. The bullet hit him in front of the right shoulder and exited just in front of his left hip, complete penetration. He ran approx. 100 yds and died in the thickest briar patch I have ever seen. As darkness had set in, it took a while to find him. My hunting buddy began calling for help on his cell phone when we finally walked up to the buck. This was by far the best deer I have taken in many years. Officially he has 18 points and F/D 197 lbs. He is a true non-typical with points growing and protruding all over the rack. We had alot of help that evening getting the deer out, field dressing and skinning him. The unofficial score is 193 B/C, but he is going to be remeasured by a SCI/BC scorer later this month. I also took a doe at an extreme range with one shot from my HS precision as well. Gun used was a HS Precision, 308 win and 150 gr Ballistic Tips. Here are a couple of pictures.

just an ol damp dreary season, i thought. the first couple days were pretty chilly, but after that.....

2 does with the 300 win mag encore handgun sums up my season. of course a good ol OTT muzzle brake helped me in shootin that mule. hehehe......more like a kitty cat now.

Wow...awesome buck!! But....well....looks like he'd be too hard to drag out. I'm with KYODE on this...those little baldies are easier to drag out over logs. A deer like that you would always be lifting his head and getting the antlers untangled from brush...ughhh!! Too much work for me...yeah...yeah...too much work...that must be why I always shoot does.

Congrats! Nice buck. Our home state of Ky. is really starting to produce some awesome bucks. I'm not sure if its because hunters are finally shooting only older bucks or there's just so many that more young ones make it through the first few seasons. I do know some hunters, along with myself, are producing alot of food plots nowadays.
