I have the One Ragged Hole sight on my Ruger Blackhawk and it has made it possible for me to get back to shooting without the need for a scope. I personally prefer deer hunting with open sights.
I am looking at buying a S&W 629 but I can't see the stock rear sight clearly. I will not but it if I need to scope it. I need to put something like a One Ragged Hole sight on the gun. According to their web site, they don't make one for a S&W. I tried emailing them and the address does not work. Does anyone know of another manufacturer of a similar sight?

probably wouldn't be much better but they do make a "V" notch conversion kit for smith and with a Hi Vis front might be a little better. The problem with the smith is the rear blade doesn't come out that easy, it is peened together so you have to replace the adjustment screw assembly and re peen it.

They work great! But, I wouldn't order direct from ORH.

Rod, too.

More expensive as I understand. The ones I tried came from Brownells and Midway

A lot of guys have had their money taken, without ever getting any product. I ordered mine a few years ago and never a problem, but recently there seems to be something fishy goin on. May be better to buy from a retailer, IMO.

That S&W 629 sure is a fine looking gun but if I can't see the iron sights then I will not be buying it.
Does anyone know if One Ragged Hole (or similar) is made for Taurus or Ruger Redhawk?

as far as I know only the winchester lever guns and Ruger single actions but I can't remember if the redhawk uses the same blade or not but it seems like something must be going on with the company. Brownells and Midway neither one list them anymore and they say guys were paying for them through the manufacturer and never getting their sights so who knows. Brownells does show the winchester in stock but it says the Rugers were discontinued.

Discontinued and unavailable via Brownells for Rugers. Lever gun sight available. No mention of S&W version.

Wapitirod has a ORH sight set up that he is going to let me try on the custom .475 he is building for me. Then if I like it I will buy it. I will let you know MHO when I do.

I put one on today (Ruger 41 Bisley) & it seems to work great, I have the smaller one installed, I think its 7/32". I don't know how well its going to work for distance shooting but at 40 yds I really liked it. A fellow from Reno loaned it to me before my bear hunt.....I need to get it back to him!

Seems like a no-brainer (ya'll know by now that I am the very definition of "no-brainer", HA!) for an accomplished machinist to manufacture this type of sight as a replacement blade for a stock Ruger sight or even the Bowen. Hmmmm, Rod....is that a challenge?

Seriously, isn't there some sort of "krinkle" at the bottom edge of those Ruger blades? That might be difficult to accomplish.

Warren,

Can I take us back to the beginning for a second and ask a couple of questions?

1. How clearly are you requiring yourself to see the rear sight? What I mean is, it'll never really be in sharp focus if you have the front sight in focus. Are you having trouble seeing the rear sight well enough to align it with the front?

2. If you can "see" the rear sight but not get a decent focus on it to align things, would an outlined notch be helpful (like a Glock) or a three dot sight (like an M&P), or even the express with vertical line like the Bowen?

This sight is pretty cool, but it would require some ingenuity to install.

I wear glasses for distance so I can not see the stock rear sight clearly and it becomes one big blurr. I have the same problem with my lever action rifle and I had to add a scope to that. The One Raged Hole opened up the rear sight and makes it possible to line up the front sight inside the hole. I like it a lot.
The other sights you mentioned are not familiar to me and I will need to check them out. Hopefully they will work for me.
Thanks

I'm trying to use the irons for as long as my eyes will work for me (I'm 47). Seems so much less cumbersome. I have never liked scopes, and since I hunt in heavy woods for the most part, not really needed.

The sight pictured above is from Williams. It is designed to fit on their (adjustable) rifle rear sight base so some ingenuity by a smithy might be required to retrofit to a revolver.
