Hi gys, not new to handgun hunting just new to the forum. My hunting brace currently includes a f/a 83, a sbh hunter in 45lc and a ss bisley blackhawk convertible in 45lc/acp

this was last years good fortune, 300 yds behind the house. about a 30 yd shot.

Wow, super nice buck! It must be nice to have deer like that in your backyard. Its hard to tell from the photo, is that the FA 83? Looks like you shot it with iron sights? What caliber is the 83? Good shooting!

Nice to have you on board. I live next door in South Central Missouri.

Very nice deer by the way.

Like to chat, however I had better get to the range and open up. We have 7 Law Enforcement Sniper School students who will be waiting on me if I do not get going now and get the place open.

Thanks for the additional details! A couple more questions if you don't mind..

What was the load? What was the shot angle? How far did the deer run after the shot? Were you satisfied with the performance of the load and would you use it again?

I hope you don't mind me picking your brain. I love this stuff!

The previos day i was huntin about a quarter mile away. about noon this old boy brought a doe to the edge of the woods i was in. the doe came in and passed 40 yards from me. he would not leave the edge of the crp field, in the meantime the doe had made a complete loop and was back within 30 yds of him. the chase was on. the rest of the day passed uneventful. the following mornin i crawled up in the stand behind the house. this stand is at the other end of the crp field from yesterday. since this old boy has decided that this field gave him a wonderful view of the runway models i hatched a plan. i have the crp field to the north, to the south west of me is a standing corn field to the southeast is a mowed field with a small pond that edges the corn field. the does allways come from the corn around the pond and in the crp to bed. i was hopefull they would drag big boy with them. well, the midwest has a few days every year that more resemble a wall mart on black friday than normal deer activity and you never know when the 128oz bubu mugs will go on sale and you will be covered up with critters running in every direction. (back to the story) I see the does coming around the pond so i turn and get my forearms on a limb because it is all over but the scoring. Nope not a horn to be seen. as i stand ther sulking in my rejection arms limp, gun in one hand i hear a god awfull racket coming from under me. as i look down i see a doe coming from the crp field directly under me wide open. i said to my self. self why is that doe running full tilt out of a crp field and self said its the rut dummy, get your gun up. she paralels the corn field with this old boy 20 yards behind her. about 30 yards out she darts west into the corn with the buck about to do the same i let out a mighty explative and he locks up broadside. there are two things i have learned about hunting with a 300 grain hndy xtp mag over 31 gr of h110. one, you never find your bullet. two, deer dont go far. at the sound of the shot he went into the corn, better than tracing in crp i guess. less than 15 seconds latter he came back out of the corn the same place he went in and fell over dead. I wld rather be lucky than good.
I was 20 feet up he was 30 yards broadsideso the angle was not too sleep. came in at the top of the lungs and came out about midway up the far lung. clean passthrough. as usual there way no sign of bullet expansion but like any time you put a hole through both lungs they fall over in short order. for the most part i believe any .452 bullet that is constructrd to go 1750 fps will not expand in a whitetails chest. maybe end to end but not rib to rib. I have shot deer ranging from 60lb to 250lb with this setup and have never recovered a bullet

14cm,welcome to the site first of all.I've been using the hornady 250 X.T.P. in my casull, its only doing 1520 f.p.s. ,great expansion and pass's through the deer like butter.I haven't gone to the 240 X.T.P. mag. bullet yet, but that one is intended for full speed in the casull and I bet that bullet would give good expansion.

the (net is for fishing) is what my freinds and i say when we shoot a good deer that will drop alot because of deductions.

this old boy dropped 20+ inches in deductions so i decided to quit net scoring them
