They are an excellent gun falling in between the Rugers and FA's. I wouldn't use the Hogue wood grips they have on their site, firt off they are too expensive and second you need huge hands. I'm 6'3" and the grips were too big for my hands. Normally you can find a set of Ruger SBH grips to fit, in fact somewhere on the bragging board is a pic of Pab's 454 BFR with Ruger panels. I had a BFR in 45-70 and it was an excellent and very accurate gun.

14cm -- I think that the BFR is the best bang-for-the-buck available. I have never shot one that hasn't been exceedingly accurate. I love mine. My BFR where's the micarta grips most of the time, but the rubber gips when I spend any time on the bench.

Had one in 45-70 excellent shooter. Stock grips #### but SBH grips fit. Gun was very accurate. Only reason I sold having a custom built. Its a heavy gun to pack to.

I think I need to look into them a bit more. i have a feeling i will never be able to fund a ruger convertion or another f/a. Most people have said they need stoned on all the edges first thing is this what you guys see. i would assume the short cyl BFR is about the same size as my m83? what barrel legnth would you recomend in the 475. i am interested in the 6.5" as of now

thanks in advance

I have fired several BFR's and agree that they are head & shoulders above a Ruger. However, they are also that far behind a FA.

If you are like I am, one will not really suit you if it is not right. Be careful with your $$$$. Hold out for the one that you really want.

Just my $.02.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

I like FAs as much as the next guy, but in most cases they won't out shoot a BFR. Yes, the fit and finish is where the FA really shines, and I am a big fan of the grip frame (particularly over the BFR), but if you want a no-nonsense, functional, accurate field revolver, look no further. Plus, they are priced right. My .500 JRH BFR shoots like a house on fire.

I didn't have the luck these guys have had with the BFR. Sold it and bought another FA'S in 475 with ext. 480 cylinder. The gun will shoot honest 1.5 groups at 100 yards with several different loads.

I have to agree with wtrope on this one, they may be a good gun but, IMO they don't come close to being a FA'S.

I can't argue for or against this statement for I have never fired a BFR. I cant even vouch for FA's in general, cause I've only ever fired one of them (the one I own). With that said, I can say this, the FA 83 I have is the most "stupid" accurate revolver I've ever dealt with. (That was some youngster slang). If a BFR is more accurate than the FA I own, I'm in bad need of a BFR.

The BFR revolvers are excellent revolvers but they aren't an FA but if the FA is out of your price range for what you want to spend but you want to step up from a Ruger they fit the bill. My 45-70 would shoot right around 2-3" groups at 100 with the 440cps running hot.

KRal, I'm with you - actually, on better thought...let me stay away from that line of thinking. The FA's are like Gremlins - they multiply! Where there was one, now there are three and expanding...all because I bought the first one, and it would outshoot any other revolver (stock, custom, or Performance Center) I had shot or owned. Not sure I need a BFR addiction as well!
