On Monday you spot a perfect 8 point standing broadside at 40yds.
then on Tuesday you spot an even bigger 10 point at 190yds thats also broadside. What gun and load would you use on either day??? My gun`s.....

Monday: FA`s m-83 .41mag shooting handloaded 210gr XTP
Tuesday: TC Contender 6.5JDJ shooting a handloaded 120gr Speer SP

I would say on both days with very little difference on point of aim I will be using the Contender super 14 30/30 ackley improved with 36.5 grains of Varget pushing the 125grn Hornady single shot pistol. That is all if I get a good load with those otherwise it will be the same powder charge pushing a Barnes bullet.

Not knowing which shot would present itself ahead of time, and knowing a 190 yard shot is quite likely, I would carry the one that I know would do both jobs well. In your case the JDJ gets the nod. Or, be prepared to do a little stalking ;-)

Rod, too.

I don't have a handgun at the time that will handle the long shots anymore but I'm probably going to be getting my hands on my step Dad's encore in 30-06 since he has only shot it twice in five years. The close shot would be one of my big bores but I can't say which one for sure just depends on my mood that day but it would be a 454, 475, or 500.

If we are hunting a spot with limited range shots Monday, then I would go with my 480 Ruger with 400 grain WFP, or my 44 Magnum with 310 WFPGC bullets.

Tuesday hunting the edge of a field with long shots possible then I would have my 6.5 X 30 JDJ loaded with Hornady 129 Spiral Points over 38.0 of 748, or my 35 Bullberry loaded with 180 SSP bullets over 39.0 of H322.

If I were hunting the same location both days where long shots were possible I would take my Contender, probably in 6.5 X 30 JDJ due to the flatter trajectory.

monday....... 7 1/2" ss ruger redhawk 44mag with 2x burris scope. 21.0gr of 2400 with a 240gr xtp. i rarely pack it because tuesdays gun covers all my needs without restriction.

tuesday...... super 14 35remington contender, converted to a rimmed cartridge using 303 british brass cut down. 39.5gr of H322 with a 180gr hornady ssp traveling 2150fps+. a real thumper!....and serves at most ranges i encounter. 0-200 odd yrds. the 30-30AI would work great as well. my 2 favorite contender deer guns!

Monday the 480 SRH with 400gr hardcast from a Lee mold, no question.
On Tuesday, since I have no single shot handguns if I don't figure I can put the sneak on him I'll have to grab my Marlin Guide Gun in 450 Marlin with 420 harcast & feel no regrets.

Oh boy, choices choices..........

Monday, either the Dan Wesson in 357 Max with 180gr pills, or the 480 Ruger with the 325gr XTP's.

Tuesday, the 243 Striker with 80gr SSP bullets or the XP 100 in 35 Rem with the 180gr SSP bullets.

They are the primary white tail guns, so what ever mood I'm in in the morning when I open the safe will be taken. LOL

Tuesday.(only if I missed on Monday).. Encore 15" 30.06 125gn Nos. BT. 50.0gn IMR 4320.

Since I carry both with me anyway it should'nt make a difference.

I'd rather be lost in the woods with my 41 Mag. Than found at home without it.

TC Encore Custom Shop 16" 338-06 and a 200 Nosler Balistic tip at 2650fps for the close one with the scope set on 2.5x and then the same caliber and load with the scope on 8x. Nothing else is really needed. Change to a bigger game and just switch to a Partition or Barnes TSX--and yes the TSX does expands on White Tails at that renge too! I'd be eating venison on both counts!

you know I've been thinking about this some more and although I don't have one now I've always wanted and encore in either 7mm Rem or Wthby mag and I bet that would be the perfect gun for tuesday and monday how about for fun my 3.75" Vaquero in 500 Linebaugh although I'm still screwing with the front sight on that thing but I think I got it figured so that would be a dead buck.

Well, Rod will have my customized Ruger Bisley in .475 Linebaugh
finished soon and I should have a good load and be in good practice with it by hunting season, so it gets the vote for that Fantasy Monday.

But for Dream Tuesday, out comes my Encore in 30-06 JDJ with 165 grain Accubonds for that 190 yard shot.

Tuesday - up until yesterday, 7-08 Encore topped with Leupold 2.5x8...now I'll pull out my new-to-me 6.5/270 JDJ topped with the same optics! Can't wait to start load development for the upcoming season...

.309JDJ both days and put two deer in the freezer. I would use a 150 grain Ballistic Tip instead of a jacketed, non-expanding bullet.
