Even though its been raining every day for a week now & I still haven't finished packing for Raton, I decided to make a little ground squirrel run to let my Alan Harton 480 stretch its legs. I managed to get my truck very muddy but the trip was worth it, this is a very large female badger & the 350 gr LFN really punched her ticket. One shot at about 30 yds as she sneaked along the lava reef & the Harton gun was properly christened! Fermin, get your crocs on & come shoot a badger! This photo was taken last week, spring comes slow in the Rockies! Dick

Dick,
Looks like you've gotten the kinks worked out of the 480! Nice badger!

Hey Dick,
Way to go and good shootin! Did you skin it out for tanning or was it too "springy?" Hard to tell from the pic. I think you "used enough gun."
On most ranches I have hunted, the ranchers want these "diggers" shot. Their large holes are a menace to livestock, as far as potential broken legs. Once upon a time in Wyoming I witnessed a small group of antelope run across a prairie dog town, and one stepped in a hole and broke something more than a leg; I say this because it was dragging itself along with its front legs, the rear legs just dragged.
I know this is different than a badger hole but I thought I would share the story.
One ranch I hunt on regularly DOES NOT WANT THE BADGERS SHOT.

Nice work, I like shooting them critters. I have my taxidermist tan the hides for me and boil the skulls. The last one I got with a 475 cal too, it may be over kill but it's a blast aint it.

Sorry for the silence, I"ve been in Raton, New Mexico for the last week, had a great time & just got home tonight. I'm located in Soda Springs, Idaho & in the winter I'll be in Wickenburg, Arizona. I always give the badgers away to anyone that wants one mounted, they make great rugs. I"ve probably gave away 20 or more, whoever is next in line would you please remind me, I've forgotten.

Whitworth, Alan wasn't satisfied with the locking bolt, he thought it was too thin, he rewelded it to make it thicker then worked it back down to correct size, he also made a little more engagement on top, he said it looked to be a little too pointy. Now the gun works great, I shot it a whole lot in Raton. Not sure but I think Alan buys these locking bolts. I really love this gun, there isn't one thing I would change.
