I was looking at a Trijicon red dot sight with an 8 MOA dot. Do you think that the dot size is to big for deer hunting at 50 yards or less? They make a 4 MOA sight but I found the 8 on sale.

I have a 5 MOA and it seems to cover up about a 6 inch circle at 100 yards. I have always liked a crosshair because of this. I feel You can't be as exact with bullet placement when your sight covers up so much of the target.

When I set up my red dots,I sight in with the very top of the red dot, this way it doesn't take up the whole target and I can be more precise at 100-150 yards.

A true 8moa sight will cover a 4" area @ 50 yds. Should work fine.

I have a 7MOA dot on my Bisley 45LC and I can keep 'em in a pie plate @ 100 so you should be fine with a 8MOA @ 50.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I personally prefer the smaller dot of an Aimpoint Micro T1
with the Aimpoint, you can turn it way down and the dot gets effectively smaller, turn it up and it appears larger

I adjust for the conditions, down real low for longer shots and up bright if walking around and need to see it faster
