i hunt with either a m83 or sbh hunter. sometimes scoped sometimes not. i realy like the galco open top holster but it is made for the 460 or 500 smith scoped only. i am not sure how well the open top would work but it is a slick looking rig.

What do you guys prefer. $200 is about my limit.

If you're refering to the Galco "Kodiak Holster", they are now making them for the Freedom Arms and Ruger Blackhawks.

Kodiak

Pistol Packaging is also a great choice for a custom holster. Very reasonable prices.

the problem with the galco is every time i check there sight it says it will be availible in a couple monthes. this has been going on for a year and a half. do you have any thoughts on how the kodiak would preform?

It's a good looking holster, but I've never laid hands on one. I do own another Galco holster and it's top quality. I was wanting one (Kodiak) a few years ago for my SBH Hunter, but then they were only offered for the big Smith's. I do own a Pistol Packaging Bandito rig and I'm very happy with it. It's made to your specs and is cheaper than the Kodiak. Good thing about the Bandito is, you can have several different holster for different guns and they'll interchange with the Bandolier. So, for $65 or so, you have a new rig you're already used to. It also has interchangable ammo loops...

I use an Unle Mikes holster also-its been about ten years ago I bought mine and I think it was 39 bucks so I'm quite sure they'll be upwards from 50-70 bucks.

+1 for the Bandito Belt rig from Pistol Packaging.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Well, for the scoped SBH Hunter the Wyoming Combination Holster is a great rig. I've had mine for a couple months now. Used it in the field bear hunting. Hiking with and without a pack, atving with different coats, etc. I'm very happy with it. For unscoped I like a crossdraw belt rig. Here's a link to a write up I did for the WY Combo.
