Just wondering. What are the differences in the two, and is one superior? or is it just preference?

the difference is grip shape and size, the bisley has a larger (longer) grip frame that drops at closer to a right angle to the frame and barrel. For the most part it's preference but in some cases such as with the five shot conversions to the heavy hitters like the 454, 475 and 500's it makes a big difference in handling the recoil and controlling the gun. In fact some custom gun builders won't build one of these conversions on anything but the Bisley frame for liability issues. To me shooting heavy 44 and 45 loads I prefer the standard SBH grip frame as it points more naturally but some have the opposite experience. I do have one 475 with the standard grip frame and I can tell you it's much more punishing on the wrist and it has alot more barrel flip than the bisley framed guns I have. I also think aesthetically the standar frame is better looking but then again that's just my opinion.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

Well, that's the only diff I could visibly see, was the grip size. Just happened to get a little curious. Used to have a super redhawk with 7.5 barrel. could not get a good group with it, though open sight with dads 9.5 barrel in a SRH, I couldn't miss. Chalked it up to that occasional bad one off the production line. Love Rugers, but there's always that one. Recoil really wasn't bad at all and would like to get another eventually. Wanted the single action, but the price was right on that gun. scoped and shoulder holster was only $500.

Oh, and yes. I did try it without the scope. I knew you'd ask.

Deep thought, i u find your self in southern illinois i will let you shoot the same guns. one bisley and one reg. Then i will let u shoot my f/a and you will see why the f/a gripframe should be on all revolvers.

It depends on your hand size. I can not shoot a Bisley with comfort because I have large hands and a very large knuckle on my middle finger from shooting heavy bows. The grip beats my knuckle. Rubber grips help. The Bisley is also a little grip sensitive and gets close to a S&W grip that can change POI by the way you pick up the gun. You really need to shoot both types to make a decision. I had to sell my Bisley.

If you're able to shoot both grip types before buying, do it. I found out after getting one that Bisley grip don't work for me.

The FAs are really nice. As of yet, I have not even held one. I've read some about them and would love to try one on. Never see 'em at the shows, and too high out of my buying ability. The other two I think I can get my hands on for a few rounds before I buy. Thanks guys.

Where "in OK" do you live? If you can manage a trip out to west Texas (Panhandle), you can shoot them all with me --- Blackhawk, Bisley, FA (and even S&W & Colt if you choose.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

My first single action was a Bisley, it was a natural fit for me, love at first feel ;-)
Later on some time, I held a "traditional" blackhawk and it just didn't feel right. Still doesn't.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Sounds good wtroper. I may hit you up on that if I ever get out of SE OK. About once a year I head that way. The FA is listed about $2200. I have a hard time buying the $700-800 range. Too many kids! lol

If you're patient and diligent you can occasionally buy an FA used for $1000 online. I've seen a couple for that price in recent weeks.

Thanks Gary. You might be changing my wishlist if I can manage!
