Good Morning all, pardon my ignorance but this is the first Encore I've owned. The one I purchased came with the 45/410 barrel, 15" in SS and the documentation is pretty light that came with it. It does have a choke installed and my question is if I amd shooting .45 colt rather than the .410 does the choke have to be removed?

I would remove the choke when shooting solids threw the barrel.

Congratulations on the new Encore!!

My brother has a Remington 870 barrel-26 inch, that has a buldge in the end where there was once a choke in at the time when some "brain surgeon"decided to shoot a slug through it.So my advice would be to remove the choke-johnw. by-the-way,it wasn't my brother that shot the slug through it,a friend did,and thats how my brother was given a 26 inch barrel for free.

A lead slug, jacketed or not, will swage itself through the choke, no problem there. Problem is the bullet will keyhole as it loses its spin and tumbles through the air. It won't hurt the barrel, but won't shoot worth spit either so there is no point. Mine shoots 45's like crap anyway so all I do is shotgun with it. The 45's go through the Rugers ;-)

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

That will fix the problem!!

You were not going to be happy with the accuracy out of that .410 anyways…

I have wondered about the 410 encore pistol for a little challenge at wing shooting. Anyone have input?

I have hunted quail with a contender 10" & 14." Will admit that I did not damage the population much, but it was a hoot. Try it.

I hunt rabbits with mine.A couple of rabbits with a 10 inch contender are better than a dozen with a shotgun.

I took it to the range today just to check it out as is, I had clays set up at about 20 yards and dispatched those with the .410, I removed the choke and was plinking the 10" frying pan at 75 yards with the .45LC, it was fun but I can't wait till tomorrow, my .308 barrel will be delivered and then let the good times roll.

Where in WY?
If you want to take the kick out of the rig a Holland Radial Brake does wonders.

Pete,

On the harder recoilers, I find the pachmayr grips do a lot for my hand than the factory grips. You might want to try that for your .308.

I'm in Evanston, I've ordered the Pachmayr grips and forend and a sling kit. The Encore was purchased locally at one of our sporting goods stores. The .308 barrel, scope rail and rings from E.Arthur Brown and the Burris scope from Midway. I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the goodies delivered and installed.

I got it punched in at 100 yards, still have some tweaking to do, I had to give up after I ripped my trigger finger on the frame or trigger guard. Short term I had a pair of runerized gloves I had cut the trigger inger off and used it like a finger sock. I'm hoping by adding the items listed above that will no longer be a problem.

Having only shot an thumb-hole stocked Encore muzzleloader, I can't understand how you ripped your finger...was this due to the recoil, the grips, or what?

It was definately the rcoil and the factory grips that caused the problem
