Yesterday evening Kristen & I went out after school and we saw a number of does again and three coyotes. If the yotes had been in range she would have shot one. It is good that they were not, because around 5:15 a spike came out but was not in a shootable place. After a period of time he came into a safe area to shoot and Kristen sent a 120 NBT over the wheat field and put down this buck. Range was 250 yards. Bullet performance was great. Both of us are quite happy. I don't think my pants fit her real well but they are warm.

As you can tell she does not have a problem pulling the trigger. She wants to go after coyotes next!

dang! she's better than me! ... ...well, maybe she's just purrtier than me.

congratulations again

hehehe, i can't believe she made those good poses. i'm sure the 250 yard shot was "gravy"....if'n her daddy taught her to shoot.

She's having a great season Ernie!
I'm thinking she could have a hard time keeping a boy friend thru the 1st hunting season. He'll either be real secure in his masculinity or he won't be able to handle the pressure.
Hmmmm, maybe that's part of dad's plan.....

In one pose she acts like she is about to kiss him on the mouth. She also took pics while I was working on the animal. Had me spread the rib cage out to show the exit wound from the inside of the rib cage. She even had me hold up the lungs so she could get a pic of the lung damage. And of course she took all those pics to school today
She has told some of her friends who are guys that if they mess with her, that her daddy could take them out beyond a 1/4 of a mile. When I found out she said this, I put an end to that, explaining you don't make statements like that, even if you are teasing--so I guess the word is out on that. The guys are more intimidated by the fact I am a preacher. The combination of the handguns just add to that confusion factor. Any of the boys in school that hunt will know by the end of the day that she nailed a buck with one shot at 250 yards with a handgun. Her girl friends don't know how to ahdle it all sometimes-A handgun toting cheerleader
She was shooting from a good solid rest-that makes all the difference when the range gets long.
BTW it is her idea to do all "snuggle up" poses.

Ernie,
Congratulations again to Kristen and to you. Her shooting abilities are very impressive. I can imagine the confusion created by a pistol shooting preacher. You should be a very proud father.

Congrats!!!! Kristen!! Nice job it sure is nice to see a young woman hunting and with a pistol to boot. Very nice shooting too. I took my wife out this year first time and she nail'd a nice doe at long range with my 30-30AI Contender. You should see the looks we got from the guys hunting seeing a girl packen a pistol

Congrats Kristen!!! I showed my daughter you posts, she was impressed. She is 9 now and has been taging along hunting with me for 2 years. This summer I plan to let her shoot at a couple of woodchucks.

Ernie, last year at school my daughter was writing in her journal about hunting chucks, and even drawing pictures in art class. I'm glad her teacher understood. It also helped that her husband was a gunsmith!

How about 15 years. When she showed the pictures at school on Friday one of the boys said she didn't even shoot it and another doubted the distance. I would gladly put her up against any boy in the area with their hunting rifle @ 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards while she shoots her MOA. I think she has offered a side by side shoot-off to a couple of mouthy ones. I was told the cat got their tongues as they were speaking in a mixed crowd. Can you imagine the embarrasment for a teen boy getting beat by a girl with a handgun who he has openly said she couldn't shoot? Her Biology teacher loved the pics of the animal while I was gutting and quartering. With a 20 MOA mount and the BP reticle you can stretch that barrel pretty far.

She was 7 or 8 years old the first time she shot prarie dogs with me. I had a 221 Fireball and she hit 3 dogs in four shots. Range was just over 100 yards. It was the first time she had ever shot a handgun or used a LER scope. It was not the first time she had used a scope as I taught her on a chipmunk 22lr first with a apeture sight then with a 2.5-8 scope on it. I will try to find that picute and post it.
She won't be teaching a shooting school soon, but her dad is a teacher for a specialty Handgun seminar for hunting and long range shooting if you are really interested. Steve (sscoyote), myself, and Marc Sheehan will be putting on a course named S.H.O.T.S (Specialty Handguns Outdoorsman's Tactical Seminar). Will take place in the spring of 05 just outside Pueblo, CO. Be a three day course (Thursday-Saturday). Erik is trying to talk me into taking him out of school for a couple of days so he can come. He wants to shoot his new XP-100 (250 Savage Ackley Improved).

Congrats again Kristen - I love that 2nd picture. What Cal. is that MOA? It looks like a honkin big brake on the end.

260 Remington. Brake turns it into a pussycat to shoot.

Here is a collage she made for me the other day out of the blue. It has two of the pics I mentioned. The PD's are little ones (small targets). The two deer are the ones she has taken the past two years. One is an antlerless buck that had just recently shed. We were hunting during the antlerless season. and the other one is a doe (snuggle picture) which she shot last year. Scanner didn't get all of it, but it said "Dad's LiL Hunter."

I can only echo everyone else's sentiments. Congratulations. I can only hope that my boys will be as keen and show as much interest when they're a little older.
