Well, I just bought an encore in 7mm-08. Anyone have some load data for this caliber? Any load suggestions for taking it on an antelope hunt this fall? I will also have the 6.5jdj along with the usual 120gr ballistic tips. Any and all loading suggestion are welcome.
Thanks

40.0 grains of H-4895 with the 140 NBT or 42.0 grains of H-4895 with a 120 NBT for the 7-08

i worked from ernies data for my 15" factory 7-08. i ended up with a terrific load at 41.5gr h4895 with the 120gr nosler bt at 2800fps. that load makes it shoot like a custom tube!

one of the easiest barrels i've worked a load for.

Thanks guys. How are the BT bullets holding up on deer size game at those velocities? I use the BT's in the 6.5 at around 24oofps and they anchor a deer quickly. Lots of tissue damage and the round comes apart. I have wanted to see the effect on a hog in 225-275lb range. Has anyone on here taken an Elk with their 7mm-08?

Not per say with the 7-08, but I have shot a number of elk at extended distances with the 284 Win, which would be the performance level of the 7-08--Dead elk!

For deer and antelope the Ballistic Tip, but for elk I used the 140 Partition

140 NBT out of a 7-30 Waters at 2250FPS I recovered from a deer. Shot was about 25 yards.

The deer just fell down... quite a bullet.

Funny... LOL

I really don't care if a bullet separates or not. I care about results. That bullet did separate, but only after hitting a rib. It then left two wound channels that were very impressive. When I shot that buck he literally sat down and before he hit the ground he had blood coming out of his mouth. It was like hitting that deer with a sledge hammer.

Personally, I do not need a exit wound or for the core and jacket to remain together for me to be satisfied with the bullets performance on game.

I have never had a deer go more then 25 yards after being shot with my 120gr BT over Varget in my 6.5JDJ contender. Some have exited some have not.

Well, loaded some 120 gr ballistic tips for the 7mm-08 last night and went to the range today. Only loaded 2 loads both usine varget. First load was 43 gr and second load was 44 grs. The nosler book claimed that the 43gr load was the most accurate in that powder. The 43 load did a 1 3/4 group at 100 yards. The 44 gr grouped right at 2". I pulled two shots on the second course of fire. As well, the barrle only had 10 mins between firing the two different loads. The 44 gr loads POI was 4" higher then the 43. I will try the 44gr again in a cold barrel. I think it may be a winner in the field.
