Colorado Elk. 45 Colt 335gr cast at around 1150 fps should do it. Others animals on the list, but being from CO and brand new hunting with a handgun, the Elk is on the top. A couple of months ago I would've said my 45 SBH Hunter, but now after reading all the hunting stories by Sixshot, my little 5.5 45 Colt Bisley (with about 10 more years of practice) might come with me in the woods.

One of the sheep species,or an Alaskan Yukon Moose. You know I don't know that taking it would be mandatory but having it close enough to know I could have dropped it with my colt would be a dream come true.

Oh boy...... decisions decisions......
A wolf, while hunting in the hills of Montana or Idaho.
Taken with my XP100 in 35 Remington.
Sure would make a nice full mount.

african lion, on foot, double tap 250 grain xbp load at 1900fps from my FA83 454 casull, in north america.........i'd take a brown bear with my FA 454 and i'd use corbon penetrators or the same barnes load if it holds up to my testing as well as it has so far.

Alaskan Yukon Moose w/475 Reeder, using 375gr WFNGC. (It'll never happen, but.......)

My first are not very exciting to most but I hope to take both my cow elk and doe mule deer this year with my 14 inch contender in 30/30 AI pushing 150 grain Hornady bullets. If all goes well then I will move into the male side of the species listed above. I am just glad to still have the chance to hunt in this day and age and cherish every hunting adventure that comes my way.

A 225 inch B&C whitetail buck, with Encore chambered in 7-08 Rem wearing a Leupold 2.5x8 in Warne rings shooting a 140 gr Nosler Accubond ahead of Hodgdon powder in a Hornady case while wearing Realtree camo . The endorsements should more then pay (x over)for that Alaskan moose hunt ,which is at the top of my most wanted list.

Oops, I forgot the second part of the question, with the 7mm Dakota project that we are putting together.

Don't confuse shooting with hunting. Shooting is a game, hunting is a sport.

Hmm. I would love to go to Alaska again and hunt but I don't see that in the cards. Ideally I too would like to take a brown bear with a handgun. With what I have now it would be a TC Contender with the 45-70 barrel and my Ruger 480 as a back up.
More realistically my future dreams include a bison and javelina.
For the bison it would be the same caliber combination. For the javelina it would be my muzzleloading barrel in 50 caliber for the TC.

I think Dan B's trip out west last year is pretty much what I want to do.. I hope to get that in the book next year.
Goats at 1K is about as good as it gets.
BTW I would try it with my BB MGM 308 Encore no XP's here so the encore would have to do.
Might even give the old 257 BOB a shot

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Mine would be a goat or sheep with my 309 JDJ. But a hunt like that would deserve a new gun in 338 JDJ.

Well, it was black bear this spring but I didn't do any good. Now, I've got my sites set on moose this fall. I'm headed sheep hunting for 10 days in a couple weeks but will be taking my 325 wsm again. If I get another ram with my rifle this year then maybe next year I'll try a handgun hunt for sheep. But, I think it would need to be a solo hunt so I could call all the shots on the hunt. It's tough enough getting in to rifle range. Not to mention the time and logistics it takes to get in the sheep mountains in the first place. 300+yd shots are pretty common. Last one I killed was 400, partners shot em at 250 and 165. May have been able to get closer on one of them.
So, at this point I guess the ultimate for me would be a solo Dall Sheep hunt with my 45 Colt SBH Hunter w/2X scope. I still haven't killed anything with it. Maybe I can cut my teeth on that moose this fall.

I wrangled horses for an elk hunting outfit out of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in central Idaho several years ago, I would love to go back one day and bring a trophy bull elk out of those mountains, bagged with my simple 'ol SBH .44mag.
If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.

Mine would be another opportunity at the huge buck that came by my stand in the predawn last season. I was hunting with an iron sighted revolver and couldnt see my sights. Ill still carry my .44 again and Ill still be using irons! Maybe he will come about 10 minutes later next time!

Virginia Elk (yeah, that's right!) with my .44 mag since that's my only hunting handgun. Doesn't that herd number about a dozen??
I understand they have moved in from Kentucky. Do you know when hey will be able to be hunted? I understand the numbers are a bit low yet.
