Sixshot posted a bunch of old hunting pictures a while ago. I set out to find some of mine. Looking thru the photo albums didn't turn up alot, but I did find a doe taken in 1992 with the Dan Wesson 357 Maximum. I used the factory ammo at the time which was the Remington 158gr SJHP.

That's my lovely wife of one year at the time. Back then I was in good shape and hunting in a flannel shirt and a heavy handgun was a breeze. Sure wish I could revisit the old days... LOL

1992?

I think that was the year I shot my 40th deer and almost shot my third wife.

Thanks for putting up with me and GOD BLESS!

in 92 I had been married for a year and had a newborn son. I only hunted with my 55# Bear Take Down Hunter at that time and I missed a whole lot more than I hit. I can't stand my ex now but we had alot of good times back then. She always wanted to go with me so it normally ended up that we would drive until we'd find a herd of blacktails and then she'd watch while I stalked. I did carry a model 57 for back up but that was a few years before I considered my sidearm a primary weapon.

I think about 1992 was when the youngest boy moved away from home. He made a good hunting pardner until he turned 16 and discovered cars and girls. I do not think he has shot his Brackenberry recurve or his Model 70 Featherweight 7X57 since then either. One of these days he will move back to the country and have time to hunt again. Both his Model 70 and the Brackenberry will age well at my house.

Outdoor life... that would be cool. I wish I had taken more pics back then and even taken notes on what I did hunt and where. The digital age has made it alot easier to keep track of things. 1992 was a great time for sure.

I took 13 deer total with the Max and the 158gr Rem SJHP and only recovered about half of them. The half that didn't pass thru were usually on the far side under the hide and mushroomed out well. One had a jacket core seperation but both pieces were recovered. The wound channel was about 1~1/2" and the exit would be about the same. I don't know what the velocity of the factory loads were in my gun, but I have laoded a bunch of the same bullet with H110 and they are running 1,700 fps.

I saved the bullets but I don't know where they are from the move. If I can find them I'll take a picture.

I never was one to take pics, but I have started to since my little girl has shown an interest in hunting. She's 10 now and has 3 firearms of her own, and is learning to be a responsible hunter. Hasn't bagged one yet, but we'll get some pics for sure!
