New guy here to the forum with a few questions.

Ive been looking at the FA 555 50AE but I would like to know what keeps bullets from jumping out of the cases?

I realize it uses a taper crimp but I cant see that being nearly as tight as a heavy roll crimp.

Can anything heavier than 325gr be shot? Bullet manufactures list there bullets specifically "50AE" and others for 500 s&w.

Ive searched this site and the internet but cant find much about this chambering, especially info for a revolver. Is it even worth getting as my first real hunting revolver?

I say no. If you are investing in a FA in 50 cal, go with the .500 Wyoming Express, and download it to 50 AE ballistics if you don't need the power or are recoil sensitive; you can always load it back up for full power later.

FA does not chamber for the 50 AE anymore. So If you are looking at a used gun as I suspect you are, and the price is reasonable buy it and have a 500 WE cylinder fit and save the price of a new gun.

I know there are guys here that have 50 AE's and I'm sure they will chime in.

This is definitely the most economical route!

Welcome to the site. I've been shooting the 50 AE in a bunch of different guns, Desert Eagle, BFR, T/C Encore, and Freedom Arms. It is a great caliber. You have the flexibility to shoot pretty much what you want in the FA 555, BFR, and Encore, cast and jacketed. I've had great luck with both. I shot bullets from 285 grains up to 440 grains. The real question is "how much is enough?" Most of us will never shoot at anything larger than whitetail deer or hogs. The 50 AE is more than adequate; and, it can be loaded so it doesn't beat you to death! It is another of the "great, ignored" calibers. If the price is right, GO for it! I have never had a problem with the bullets "walking" with a tight taper crimp. Check the data in the last 2 Speer manuals. They give data for jacketed and cast bullets in the FA.

If you are interested, CDNN Investments ( Target Sports Inc. ) on the web has BFRs in 6 1/2 or 7 1/2 barrels in 50 AE for 599.99 dealer cost. Magnum Research will fit an 500 JRH ( shortened 500 S&W ) cylinder to them for $300.
