Just woundering if any of you have tried the TSX's..? I have used them from bear to deer this year 15 to 300 yards and I'm impressed on their perfomance. I know I'll be using them on all my big game from here on out.

I'm currently trying to find the right load for my 240 Weatherby. I can't get these bullets to fly right; they keyhole the target. I'm sure it's just a bullet/powder combination thing, but I haven't worked it out yet. I really wanted to hunt with that barrel this year, but my handloads didn't perform well and I refuse to use factory ammo for something I handload.

That is odd that they don't shoot well They say they are a match-grade hunting bullet. I first tried the 168gr TSX's in my 15" 30-06AI they shot so well I tried the 150 gainers in my 14" 30-30AI and I could not believe the accuracy I was getting. I have also shot some 225gr TSX's in my 338-06JDJ again accuracy was very good. I use the Hornady soft-points in the same or close-to bullet weight of the TSX's I want to use. Then I load up some TSX's and go from there. (It's cheaper that way) So far I have found accuracy with-in 1.0 grain +/- of the Hornady loads.

Yeah, I'm having great success with TSX's this year. I never liked X bullets before. Couldn't get them to shoot as advertised, and copper fouling was bad.
TSX's seem to have solved both problems. I'm laoding 150's in my 17" XP 308 Win and getting 2650 fps. They're grouping between .300" & .750", just like Sierras.
I gambled on the 150 gr TSX FN (30-30) and they're working out great, even though I'm pushing them about 400 fps faster than they're designed for. I've shot 6 deer with them this year. All but two dropped on the spot. The two wobbled for less than 50 yards. Damage to the chest and shoulders was more massive than anything I've seen. All of them passed through so no recovered bullets to examin thus far.
I shot them on one of our sniper ranges last week, out to 600 yards. The TSX FN doesn't do well in the wind as you would expect from a flat nose bullet that looks like a soup bowl. About twice the wind deflection as the TSX sp.

A bullet, any bullet, that keyholes the target does so because of a lack of velocity, the wrong rate of twist in your barrel, or a too-heavy-for-caliber bullet. In the case of Barnes bullets, you can go right to the source. Call Barnes and ask them what twist and bullet weight they recommend for your barrel length and the velocity you load to for that caliber. They'll know best how their bullets will perform.

I've ran the TSX's through two rifles...a Savage 116BSS .300RUM (180gr TSX) and a Weatherby Accumark .338-378 (225gr TSX). The .300RUM loves the bullets and will pile them into groups measuring sub 3" at 500yds...it's also ripping them out at 3500fps!!

As for the .338-378...totally different story. It hates them. I could not get groups under 3" at 100yds. Switched to a plain 225gr Hornady SP and groups went sub one inch.

I've related this experience to a lot of long range rifle shooters and amd hearing the same experience in their response. The guns either love the TSX or hate them.

But as for the keyholing...sounds like not enough twist to me.

my ruger m77 mk2 shoots them very well, not as accurate as the 90 gr. sierra but still accurate enough to kill a deer.i took a doe last year with the 100 gr. .257 tsx at around 175 yds.and she dropped on the spot.the only dislike i have is the price!...jim257
