Good luck kenacp.
Be sure to come back with plenty of details and hopefully news of a kill. Good luck and congrats on giving handgunning a try, you won't regret it.

Good luck on your hunt. You chose a good caliber. What bullet are you shooting?
The 309JDJ was the second barrel I purchased for my Contender and have used it many times. The barrel I got likes the Nosler 150grn Ballistic Tips and IMR 4350. At 2350fps it takes deer with authourity. I'm using my 309JDJ on a special two day doe hunt this weekend in the panhandle of Oklahoma.
Good luck again. Keep us informed.
Mike

Hawkeye you and I are on the same page on that one. I use the same components in my 309 and it sure is a deer killing machine.

Kenacp good luck but you're traveling a very addictive path... I can see it now - another member of T/C's anonymous

Good luck Ken! The .309 was my hands-down favorite until the .308 and '06 Encore came out. The .309 is still my 2nd most favorite Contender cartridge though. The 375JDJ still rules King!! And now to correct Gary - Handgun hunting is not addictive!! It's a way of life!!! I was really sick over during the Thanksgiving holiday and missed the Pa opener, so I went to my buddies gun shop and bought a Rem XP100R, and a 4" M29 to go with my S&W wheelies. The new Buckmark doesn't cout because it is only a .22lr. I feel much better now and I am much faster running from my wife because my wallet is much lighter!!! Only teasing, cuz she never gives me grief about guns because it keeps me out of thr bars. I can't afford to ruin this relationship!! I went through my safes last night thinking I could dump some stuff and replace it with new, then I realized I didn't need to dump stuff, I just need another safe!!

Thanks for all the good luck. I'll be shooting 150 gr. B-Tips with imr 4350 powder in my 14" 309 JDJ. Talk about addictive, after purchasing the SSK, I now have a 223, and 22match. Oh,and an extra frame. When does it all end? Thanks again.

Good luck in Bama! I hope you do well. I have one more shot at taking a deer with a handgun in Feb.

Sorry I did't send in a report on my " Bamma" hunt sooner. Sat. AM; weather was perfect, 30 deg. clear and no wind. I was set on a pipeline ROW,looking at a food plot about 50yds away that went for about another 100yds.The pipeline had another 100yds of visability before the next ridge.I was all set with my shooting sticks at daybreak...till 10:00 nothing! Hunted a few 100yds away that eve, and still NOTHING!!!Sun. AM hunted about 20 miles west on a poweline ROW with visability of over 750 yds, same weather conditions. This time I was set up in a shooting house, with a good solid rest and my rangefinder.First deer crosed the powerline,a doe, at 525yds, then 3 at 400 yds then 4 at 600 etc. All total 12 does 1 buck, all out of range. My plans for the eve hunt was to move 300yds closer and sit by a large oak tree.Saw 3 does out of range. Then,a doe eased out into the powerline about 75yds away,my crosshairs centered on her chest, she turned and walked to within 35yds of me.Sorry but she was less than 60 lbs and I just couldn't shoot. Maybe going back next weekend.
