This is my first thread here. I am the happy owner of both a 7.5" bbl. BFR .45-70 revolver and a Marlin SBL rifle (18.5" bbl.) in the same caliber.
My goal is to come up with a heavy/dangerous game round tailored to the 7.5" bbl. BFR, which can also be used in the Marlin with satisfactory results (given the great potential of both firearms, I'd say groups within 1" at 50 yrds).
My understanding is that a heavy bullet (a 525 gr. WFN hard cast) moving at subsonic velocity in the BFR (around 1,000 fps) will help to fully utilize (burn) the powder charge in the (relatively short) 7.5" BFR bbl. and, in conjunction with the BFR's relatively fast twist rate of 1:14", help stabilize this heavy bullet in this handgun. The result, I think, would be a fairly effective round (34.35 KO value) customized to the revolver and on top of that very pleasant to shoot too. Is this line of thinking correct in your opinion? Your expert input here and any suggestions you can offer will be much appreciated.
What would be an adequate charge of SR4759 to achieve the above?
Strangely enough, when searching for SR4759 reloading data, the IMR website will link you to the Hodgdon reloading data center and there the 4759 doesn't show up in any of the reloading charts for the .45-70, either for pistol or rifle.
