I'm kicking around the ideal of getting one. I have my UltraDot on my revolver. But need something for my Ruger MKII. I know everyone loves the UltraDot's and I'm no different. But sometimes I fill the need for just a little magnification. Not much mind you. Just a little to see the smaller targets and/or critters at distances more than 50yds. I also know that magnification isn't for everyone. But I think a little for me would be good. And I will never know for sure until I try it for myself.

So, does anyone have any comments on the ProHunter? Pros &/or Cons. Does anyone have any other recommendations that are as good or better in the same price range. Any help would be appreciated.

On a 22, I think a pro hunter would be fine. I have one on a light kicker myself.

JMHO, get a variable scope. You should be able to find one in the classifieds used for a good price.

I have a 4x on my .41 mag and it has been doing fine. They are one of the more compact scopes I have used.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

They make a 2-6x32mm in the Pro Hunter. I guess it would make more sense to have variable adjustment (if needed) also have the 32mm FOV over the 20mm.

I have the 2x6, and it has been great so far. It was on a 454 barrel, and no problems. It's now on my 7 08 barrel, and works out to 300yrds. I may have just gotten lucky, but mine has held up well. That 12 inch 454 barrel kicked like a mule.

Thanks for the reply. If they can hold up to a 454 then my little 22 or 357 mag shouldn't be a problem.

i have the 2x6 simmons prohunter on my ruger mk3 fluted hunter. i think it is perfect for the job! on big kickers, i might prefer others(but i havn't actually tried it), but it is great on the 22lr imo.

I have one on my Model 17 S&W it has been nice--I like the Weaver 2X better for the money--

BTW the 2X simmons I have was on my 45 colt first --after about 1000 rounds it looked like it had pepper on the rear eyepiece

It still held zero just has stuff floating inside-

Sent it back --they replaced it with new for $15--

It is now on my K17--have had no issues there

Still seem to be a good value for the money

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Thanks for the confirmation Kyode. It looks good on your MKIII. I bet with a good rest you can really reach out there.

I have a Simmons 2X on my Browning Buckmark, for squirrel hunting past twentyfive yards a 4X would be better but the 2X will work fine.

Just sent off a check for a used 1.25x4 T/C Recoil Proof pistol scope. From the pics it looked to be in pretty good condition.

Congrats.

My cousin has had a Simmons Pro Hunter 2x6 on a 44 Magnum on a Contender has shot it for over 5 years with no problems.
