What's the rules for bringing in a large revolver to hunt pigs?
Don't confuse shooting with hunting. Shooting is a game, hunting is a sport.

With the Peoples Republic of California's liberal controled Government, who knows. An on line search might help. You will probably need Lead Free Ammo to hunt also.
If possible I would hunt in another state, not ran by Nuts & Fruits.

We'll be hunting in a Condor area, so, you're right about the lead free bullets. Cor-bon's are on the menu. The P.R.C. is right next to Nevada, which cuts down on the travel time and expence and it's the only close place to hunt wild Russian Boar hybrids.

I'm working on a pig hunt for sometime in January, the number for California fish & game is 916-928-5805.I do know you need a license and a pig tag, fish & game said there is no bag limit. Then I asked about handguns, they have to be centerfire with a barrel of 4" min. so my 7.5" will be good.An out of state lic. is around 137.75 pig tag 63.50. Its about 201.25 total. They also have a web site that I don't have handy.Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Yah, you know, the Condors were being decimated by leaded bullets. Althoooough no Condors were found dead from eating bullets. They had batteries, paint, etc. in their gullets( gee, cell phone zones, etc? ). That is where science falls to eco-terrorism, or is it due to global warming? I'm jumping off the soap box!

Your gun is legal but go to the CA DF&G web site for transporting. Sorry about having to hunt in the lead free zone that sucks, stupid condors . It has not affected my area yet but I am sure it is on the way. Good luck to you on your hunt.

Firearms Regulations are contained within the California Penal Code:
12026.1. (a) Section 12025 shall not be construed to prohibit any citizen of the United States over the age of 18 years who resides or is temporarily within this state, and who is not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing, receiving, owning, or purchasing a firearm, from transporting or carrying any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person, provided that the following applies to the firearm: (1) The firearm is within a motor vehicle and it is locked in the vehicle's trunk or in a locked container in the vehicle other than the utility or glove compartment. (2) The firearm is carried by the person directly to or from any motor vehicle for any lawful purpose and, while carrying the firearm, the firearm is contained within a locked container. (b) The provisions of this section do not prohibit or limit the otherwise lawful carrying or transportation of any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person in accordance with this chapter. (c) As used in this section, "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device.

They aren't the smartest of big birds, but the real stupidity lies in the heads of the politicos that swallow all the anti's bulls**t.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

s4s4u hit the nail on the head. My understanding was that California Fish & Game, who does have wildlife biologists on staff, was against the lead bullet ban, and thought it needed further investigation before any action was taken. I am sure that Fish & Game would have been driving the train if a REAL PROBLEM did exist. Not some outsiders taking on this issue going around them. Back to the NUTS & FRUITS running the state problem again.
I live in Missouri where lots of hunting takes place. I have seen no shortage of Buzzards in my area. Infact I see more now than I did when I was a kid. I see a dead one now and again, always hit by a car when eating road kill on the highway. I see more Welfare Hawks hit on the road than Buzzards however. They must not have the art of eating road kill without getting hit by a car perfected yet.
My new Missouri 2010 Fall Deer & Turkey Hunting Regulations on page 11 has a 1/4 page on the lead bullet issue.
Hunters, meat processors can reduce lead risk.
It basicly says that recent studies show that people who eat venison could be at rish of lead exposure. If you are worried about this, use lead free ammo. I am not sure what the meat processor part is about. I am sure I put much more time into cleaning and inspecting my meat that a commercial processor will. Looks like we all need to pay attention to what the anti's are doing in your state.
See You At The Range

The CDC did an exhasustive study that proved there was no lead exposure danger from eating game meat.
Big Steve, I am from Orange County-the only Republican County in Southern California.

California Condors are an endangered species. Buzzards are not.
There is a marked difference between the definition of a loaded gun in the CA Penal Code, as opposed to the CA DFG Code. Fish and Game considers a gun loaded if there is a cartridge in the chamber. The Penal code defines a loaded gun as having a cartridge anywhere in, or on, the gun. If taken to the extreme, this could mean a clip, cartridge carrier, or even a sling with cartridge loops. Just follow the appropriate rule in areas where you are more likely to meet up with a game warden, or highway patrolman, or vice-versa.
