I've been deer hunting for a week, I've seen a lot of deer & quite a high number of bucks, things are looking up in Idaho! I've packed my 7 1/2" Lipseys 44 special for several days & also traded off with my 10 1/2" Ruger 357 Maxie in case I needed to stretch the barrel a little bit over the iron sights of the Lipseys 44 special.
Today I decided to make a little drive up the road to check on one of my son's & a grandson, after spotting them walking off the mountain I headed back to the camper for breakfast....well, after being frustrated all summer I spotted a nice badger working his way across a stubble field, I eased off the road after driving past 100 yds & made my way back towards the oncoming badger.
My Lipseys 44 special was loaded with the Skeeter load of 7.5 grs of Unique & the 240 gr cast hollow point, eveything was assembled in Shootists 44 special brass.
As I peeked over the tall grass in front of me the badger looked my way, stopped for a couple of seconds & kept right on coming my way, at about 35 yds he stopped again & raised his head for a better look, I turned his lights out with a shot through his noggin, he just folded & never moved....yippie, I had blooded my very special SPECIAL!
He's very well furred & the markings are beautiful, anyone wanting a great badger pelt can have this one, I have 3 of them in the freezer now, although one belongs to Barranti.

Here he is posing with the Lipseys 44 special & the superb Barranti crossdraw rig, you can see the Badger track on the holster.

One of the prettiest badgers you will ever see...of course they're all pretty!

Nice, I know I have a blast shooting badgers, the last one I got was with my 475 and little bugger charged me! I have my badger hides tanned and the skulls put in with the bugs and then bleached are you going to save the hide and skull of this one?

#1 what type holster is that for the 44??

#2 that is a fine looking 44 SPL

#3 Have you tried the Elmer load with 16.5 of 2400 over the 250 EK bullets

I may just have to have one of those ---

Just as a data point will the flat top take a Bowen rear sight???

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

H2OBUG,
I can tell by the look of it that Mike Barranti or his son made that holster.
DICK,
I'd like to have that badger, but of couse I'd rather shoot my own!

Looks like you are doing very well so far this year. So far all I have been working on is snakes. So far my 480 has bagged 5 copperheads and one cottonmouth. I have not seen an armodillo so far. I would have figured I would have gotten 2 or 3 of them by now as much time as I am spending in the woods.
We still have almost a month till deer season here in Missouri. All we are shooting is pictures so far. We had a good nose at about 3" yesterday when we pulled the card from the game camera. Looks like the deer was looking over the camera when the picture was taken.

Your 44 looks good. The Berranti holster looks like a good way to pack it also. That should be a very good load also.

Good luck with your deer season.

THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

I am actually shooting a 44sp load out of my SHB’s in 44Mag because it is the most accurate load in the guns.

Congratulations on the badger! Are you going to do anything with the hide??

The crossdraw holster is indeed made by the master hide stretcher Mike Barranti. I haven't shot the Keith load in my 44 special, I have several 44 maggies for the heavier loads, although this gun would certainly handle it with no problem. I've taken a couple of whitetails with the Skeeter load.

Ken if you want this badger its yours, I also have another one that isn't spoken for, its a very large female, she's half again bigger than this one. I always give the badgers to forum members who want a neat & interesting mount. I take them to my taxidermist & he either tans them for you or mounts them, which ever you choose & he does a great job. I've given away over a dozen, everyone was happy!

Sniper, I had 2 available but both have been spoken for, check back with me from time to time, I can get you one.
Ken, do you want the one shown or the bigger female I shot this spring with the Harton 480?

Dick, I sent you a PM, but either will do. The Harton .480 one might be the "bestest". Thanks again.
