Just got back from shooting my Bullberry 338WM Encore. All I can say is WOW. With the brake recoil is almost nonexistent. Though she is pretty loud.May have to update hearing protection a bit. Only fired 10 rounds through, but I think I have a performer on my hands.
Also, fired the 338JDJ about 20 rounds. I must say it has potential also. The recoil is significantly more than the WM above. It has the SSK Arrestor and I don't think it is as effective as Bullberry's brake. Definitely alot of push when the gun is fired. I think the recoil is worse than the 375JDJ with magnaporting. Accuracy was good for fireforming. Will ticker with it somemore.
Last but not least was the 358x444 that I got from David White. Man is this thing a shooter. I was sub moa out to 100 hundred yards. Not bad considering after the first hour my hand was freezing(about 12 here today). The DW Maximizer brake really controls this. A little flip but nothing to speak of. I shot 20 rounds from this and I am impressed to say the least. It may be my deer gun next year.
What's next? Well I'll shoot these as much as possible this winter. Chronograph in the spring and go from there. I can't wait to shoot these guns again.

cool those are some awesome rounds. wish i had one of each
i'm bout half tempted to trade/sell my 14" ss 44mag, and get a 35 remington to rechamber to that 358x444 improved. i know i'd shoot it more, and my redhawk will handle 44 mag duties fine.

do ya think it is a "must use muzzle brake" proposition? you know how tender i am...hehehe.
what bullet ya gonn use in the 358x444?

If I was going to pick up another hunting barrel for the Contender, I think the 358-444 would be it. Should make a great caribou/moose/black bear gun, & of course I could use my .444 brass.

Vance and Kyode, I really like the 358x444 Imp barrel. With the brake it is very pleasant to shoot. I am one who feels that the brake does nothing but allow you to shoot better because it allows longer practice sessions. I know there are macho types out there who scoff at any brake but I'll let them suffer the consequences of that with bone problems in their hands. I love shooting but don't want to suffer the effects of stress fractures from shooting big bore stuff. So Kyode, I think brakes are a necessity on any big bore handgun. I don't know about you but I use my hands every day at work and want to protect them. I even wear shooting gloves. Call me a sissy, that's okay but I'll be able to use my hands painfree for a long time.
Kyode, I don't think you can go wrong with either the 358x444 or the 358JDJ. I am using the Hornady 180gr SSP bullet and see no need to change. Sell that 14 in 44 and get the real deal man

Tim, I'll have to "totally" agree with you. I too have a DW 358x444 IMP. but w-out the brake. It's on a G2 frame and recoil and muzzle flip is not too bad. Of course, the Ga. Jim grip and target forend also help ALOT!!! My 338x444 OTT is also a dream as well. Easily 2 of my more favorite barrels that I will never let go.

WOW Jeff, You agree with me. I have a G-2 frame but can't seem to get most of my barrels to work on it. I need to start playing with that. I think that by shaving a little off the locking lug that will fix the problem. I have extras from T/C so after Christmas, I'll experiment. I really think the 358x444. I will switch to Varget after ff done and see how that works. Merry Christmas Jeff.

Tim, try some Re7 with the 358. Have heard of real good accuracy and little barrel fouling using it. I have not yet tried it, but do have some loaded in anticipation. Only tried H4895 so far, and was very pleased.
When you're right, you're right; when you're wrong........you know the rest.
Merry Christmas to you as well my friend!!!

magman,
Did you get that barrel new or used. I sold a used Bullberry 338WM to a guy a number of years ago. Used it and took a moose with it with factory ammo. Lived in Montana, Idaho (can't remeber for sure). It had an integral Bullberry brake and was Chrome Moly. The dovetails were welded/solderd solid. Just curious.
