Thanks everyone. I just really hope to see a buck. My son and I will be hunting near Mason WI. in Bayfield county. We will be hunting bucks only there and then down to clark co. to fill a doe tag. My son will be using .44 mag Virginian Dragoon( which I thought was my 50 birthday present)& I will be using my new Ruger super blackhawk hunter(my real present). We are both shooting well, so if da "Turty Pointer" shows up we will do the smack down:) Everyone have a great hunt! Thanks.

Well, I have not seen a deer this year yet! I will be back in the woods in the morning some place close to home. I think the wolf to deer ratio is getting pretty even in northern Wisconsin! I spent 5 days in the woods and never saw a deer. 5 years ago we had our pick.

WI opener was pretty good. Took this 8 pt buck at about 3PM with a Ruger SRH in 454 Casull. I need to slow down the load a bit as the 300gr Hornady XTP/MAG (at 1650 fps) took out a rib on entrance and passed between the ribs on exit, but with no sign of expansion. Good luck to all!

That's a Burris 2X-7X Ballistic Plex. Not sure how it will do for the long haul. I was sighting in just prior to my WY hunt and the recoil knocked something askew internally and I had to send it back for warranty repair. Got it back one day prior to the WI opener. That was just enough time to handload a bunch of rounds and get it sighted it. Sure hope it stands up to the Casull.

Hunted 3 different counties, and saw zero deer. I have never spent that much time on stand and not even see a tail or ear flicker. Well, now to try not to see something while carrying my longrifle. I really wanted to harvest something with the SBH. Well next year, maybe.

Curious where you were hunting. I was about 16 miles East of Hayward, WI. I know that statewide there were a lot of frustrated hunters last year. I guess the take was down about 33% from previous years. I had no problem as I took three and called it quits. My wife and I generally go through about three deer a year, so I didn't want to be greedy. Everyone in my group filled this year in spite of it being "buck only" in zone 13 this year. Hope things pick up for you next year.

I hunted unit 6 near Mason in Bayfield co.,and stayed until Tuesday night. Then we dropped down to unit 58 near Neillsvile in Clark co. and hunted Wednsday, and the rest of the time I hunted near Neosho in Dodge co. about 10 miles from home. I'm glad to hear some good news from someone hear in Wisconsin. Most of the people I know that hunt deer had a bad year, in that they are not seeing deer let alone harvesting them.

I talked with the folks at the check station a few days after the opener and they indicated that the number of bucks equaled what they would expect to see in an average year, but of course no doe's due to that zone being designated "buck only" this year. I see no shortage of doe, but then I'm not the DNR.

I hunted Zone 9 in Barnes. The 4 of us never saw a hair. 2nd year in a row. We only missed Thanksgiving day. There was sign but no deer movement during daylight hours. There were also considerably less hunters in the area due to a couple bad seasons in a row. Even the bow pressure during the prime time end of October was way down. The check station only had around 400 registered the last Saturday. 4 years ago and prior they registered an average of $1,400 or so for gun season. Have had the cabin since 1970 and deer hunted since 1976 and this is the worst 2 season we have seen. On the Wi Dnr website opening day was down almost 30% from last year which was down 30% from the season before so totals of approx 60% from a few years ago. The problem could be unlimited doe tags, now we have wolves and the bear numbers are going up we see one every other weekend sometimes multiple sighting. Lots of pressure on the Bambi's.

I hunt up north in Zone 2, Douglas County. We saw plenty of deer but Bucks were scarce and the past two seasons have been more difficult than normal in our area as well.

I think the full moon this year played against us as well... it was like a spotlight at night.

The wolf factor is definitely in play as well. I came across at least two areas where there was evidence of wolf kill in my few days in the woods this year.

Good luck on the late season.

Thanks I'll need it. At this point just seeing something would be wonderful. If I shoot will I make things worse?

Results were spotty in Wisconsin, as they were in the U.P. According to the number of deer registered, the kill was up 11% over 2009.

Up from 09 is not up enough! I saw zip again today. Fresh snow and not a track I could find on 40acres. I'll be out in the morning again, and then a whole day Sunday. I don't know if I want to pull the trigger on a doe. Maybe Coyotes!

Late muzzleloading season in KY.starts Saturday.Predicting cold with rain sat afternoon changing to snow.It has been a hot slow year .My wife got a nice 9 point during modern season, 6.5 swedish mauser 140 gr bullet 100 yds d.r.t. I havent seen anything I wanted since early bow ,he was at 147 yds ,can't stretch the string that far.Seeing does and small bucks at 3 and4
yards, but not as many as previous years,Hemoratic disease hit us hard a couple of years ago and herd hasn't recovered yet. What kind of flintlock do you hunt with, and is WI.flint only? KY is any muzzleloader.

I shoot a TVM Tenessee rifle in .50 cal.. It is a "Convertable" in that I can go to caplock and back to flintlock with in a few minutes. I also have a Lyman "Great Plains" rifle in .50 cal. also. In both rifles I use 80 grains of FFFG with a .015 patch. The TVM(Tenessee Valley Muzzleloading) is the only custom made firearm I have had made for me. I waited over a year for it. In Wisconsin you can use any in the muzzleloading season, and even scopes and inlines:(. That season started out as a primative season. Man, I miss the early days.
