I have found a good deal on a Ruger .480 but at this point I don't reload. Do you think factory ammo will be available for the .480 for a while or will it stop being produced because the .480 is no longer being made by Ruger?

Its still available from several manufacturers but its availability in stores is at best sporadic, especially if you are looking for a specific load (like the one your gun is sighted in for) and rather expensive when you do find it. Online places like Natchez, Midway, Buffalo Bore should have good stock of ammo if you plan ahead a little.
But it is a far better cartridge for the handloader, you should go ahead and get the gun and use it as the kick in the butt you need to get into handloading! It is a very easy cartridge to load for and you will not regret ever taking the plunge into handloading...

Grizzly offers a 425 grain WFN at 1,200 as well that is a good one.

It's not a cheap round to shoot, the cheapest ammo I found was the hornady 325 gr. for $33.00 box of 20, the 480 is what got me into casting my own, GET THAT GUN! and good luck, it's really a great round.

Buy extra boxes of ammo when you find them, and save for a reloading setup. I'm not sure what it is but you cant help but grin when you shoot it.
I'll keep my fredom, money, and guns you can keep the change!

Love my 480 SRH but I'm a handloader. I think it would still be my big-bore choice even if I wasn't. I don't think it's any more expensive than the 454, 460, etc. Like rackmasher I cast for mine. 420gr @ 1150ish. Easy to load, pleasent to shoot. Snag that gun!!!

IMO the 480 is as reasonable to reload as the 41 or 44. I load the 500 S&W and the 475, I like these guns but they are powder eaters especially the 500.
God Bless President Trump!
