I have just bought a box of 265 grain Swift A Frames to load for my brand new FA 454 casull. I was looking for some load data on the internet and could not find any. I was wondering if any of you guys/gals have used this bullet or know where to find some data at... I was not planning on having to buy the Swift manual for $32 if i didn't have to.

thanks and good shooting!

I e mailed Swift last night and they got back to me today with some load data. I like to use H110, so that was the data the gentleman gave me. Maximum charge of 37.3 grains with the 265 grain bullet. If I recall he said that runs at about 2230 fps out of a 20" barrel. he did not know what it will do out of my 7.5" FA, but I am figuring maybe 1900fps? ... not sure but should be a lively load anyways! should be able to start at about 36 grains with no problems I would think...

The published load data I have for Swift uses a 20 inch barrel also. I would decrease the FPS by 15% to get a good estimate on a 7.5 inch barrel. Which puts you in that 1,900 fps estimate.

My last estimate on speed using H110 per the published figure was overstated by 300 fps. Best to check with a chronograph if you can.

well I have been doing some shooting with the Swift bullets. Accuracy seems good at this point (even though I have not gotten to shoot the gun enough to see what it can do with others) no pressure signs, and every thing else seems dandy with the full power 37.3 grain loads with starline brass and rem 71/2 primer.

The one problem I did run into, and I noticed it with the xtps also, is that my RCBS seating die has the wrong contoured bullet seating plug in it, and it cuts a ring in the jacket around the nose of the bullet, and even starts to "cave in" the hollow point slightly. I called RCBS, and they said the plugs are changeable, and they would send me one that should work for free of charge. Pretty cool if it will solve the problem, just wish it would hurry up and get here in time for my hog hunt on monday!

I would recommend a Redding competition seating die for the 454. Midway sells em. I have them for a couple of my cartridges and they are superb to work with.
