I guys,
I've posted just a few times, but read here quite a bit. This is what I posted over at KTOG.ORG:
Well, I drove thru Dawsonville (Ga) this morning. The bank said it was 16. I realize that some of you consider that skinny dippin weather, but this yank's blood has thinned. Felt cold to me. I got to my hunting place and hour before sun up. No moon. Really dark. The little valley that my friends farm is in has a little dink macadam road thru it. Moments after I got there, across the road up in the woods a "dog" barked. Instantly, 5-7 (at least) 'yotes on "my" side of the vally started yipping and howling. I then packed up my gear and walked into the very dark woods full of yotes. Kinda spooky. I was hunting with handguns, so I had my .44 mag (s&w 6" iron sites) and my .270 (scoped t/c). I had felt a little silly carrying my 9mm sig with that other hardware, but, I gotta tell you, walking into that yote filled woods, I was really glad to have that 9. I had my flashlight in my left hand with my gun pack, and my thermos in my right. I was all set to drop that thermos. The place I hunt is just a little bit into the woods, and after I got there and set up, I heard 'yotes moving thur the woods, heading into the National Forest which starts about 20 feet behind me. Kinda spooky.
Had a nice sit in the woods. Squirrls all over the place. One passed about 15 feet from me. About nine oclock I started reading Stieg Larsson's second book "The Girl Who Played With Fire". About 10:30 the squirrl that passed in front of me was pretty big. It was close, so I used the .44. I pulled an 8 lb ham off that "squirrl". I made a few pics, but they have a bit of red in them, so, unless there is clamoring, take me on faith. This was my second deer, and my first with a hand gun. I'm pretty happy.

Thanks,

Congrats on your first handgun kill!

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Oh, I've other handgun kills to my credit. I've this nifty little Taurus .17 hmr with an 8" barrel that the local squirrl just do not like. My dogs think it's pretty cool though. Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm looking forward to christening that Tompson/Center. It just doesn't make sence to me to use it at close range. Am I the only one who brings multiple guns on a hunt?
Oh, and thanks Gregg for moving this.

Oh hell no. I usually pack 2, always 1, and sometimes 3 or more ;-)

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
