Well I am getting stationed in Memphis. Its going to be a huge change from Alaska. Anyone ever hunt down there? Just wondering what is available. Also anything that I should checkout on the drive from Washington to Tennessee?

are you going to be stationed in millington? lived in memphis for 20years the only thing really to hunt in western tennessee is deer, have to go east to find hogs and bear, most of west tennessee is what the call unit L. This means that during any season(bow. muzzleloader, gun) you can kill 3 does a day for the whole season. would look in fayette county and hardeman for the best deer hunting. there is public hunting ground just north of memphis like anderson tally, chickasaw state park, natchess trace state park, and land between the lakes in north west tennssee. i killed a 158in whitetail last year and my dad killed a 160in buck this year in hardeman county, hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Is there any small game hunting? How about coyotes or fox?

That sucks! I went from Elmendorf to the Pentagon.

I don't know about Tennessee, but across the river in Arkansas there is some. My friend Greg Ballard with the Arkansas Predator Hunting Association might be able to point you in the right direction.

I'm guessing that while you will obviously be giving up some size on the critters, & a bit of wilderness experience, the sheer # of critters available will probably amaze you. Whole lot more opportunity to fill the freezer with whitetail than moose!

Maybe I can drop off the rest of my moose at your house on my way out of the state. I am sure there will be some left over. I think the thing that is going to take some getting used to is the lack of public land.

Let me move some of the salmon to the other freezer.. There's always room for more moose meat!!!

If you are taking a truck stick a freezer in the back. That's what we did moving back up here from Montana. Brought Montana moose to Alaska

The public land issue would be the toughest for me too probably. I have always lived in the west (south east/central Oregon & western Montana) with plenty of FS & BLM land to explore & then here. Never known any other way...

By the way, THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE to my family & our nation!!!

coyotes yea, fox not so much, but have seen a lot of bobcats, small game hunting is pretty good, if your into bow hunting check out presidents island in downtown memphis some monster bucks there but its a draw hunt only. a good web site to check out is Tndeer.com. might be able to find a private lease there. turkey hunting can be really good also.

I won't be moving until summer so hopefully I get to eat most of the moose before I go. When is the deadline for putting in for drawings?

It was midnight last night... And I forgot... Oh well. Never draw goat or sheep anyway. Guess I saved to regular $60.

Rickie,
I live North of Memphis in Bartlett. I am working on a transfer to Denver at this time and hope to be out there by the spring.

If I'm still here once you get to West Tennessee I'll buy you your first Memphis BBQ. My daughter worked at the base in Millington for 3 years as a lifeguard at the pool. Will you be stationed there?

Thanks for your service. My son is an Air Force Pilot at Vance AFB.

From what I have been told, from my shipmates, you should be able to hunt on the base.
