I've decided this year to go back to the old time 'small game/varmit' cartridges and cast bullets. I obtained a Ruger 'Buckeye' .32-20 and had MGM make me a 14" Contender barrel in .218 Bee. Tonite I decided to take the Bee out for a go at coyotes/bobcats in an area I've called several in before. My first stand was a dry one so I moved to the north end of the quarter section and set up on the brushy fence row north of a pond. Since I was hoping for a cat, I was using a e-caller as cats like the sound almost continuous and I don't have the wind for blowing a hand call continually. About 15minutes into the stand, and I spot a coyote SE of me at about 800yds coming hard. I loose the yote in the weeds and behind the pond dam, but when it reappears coming around the dam, I see that there are two of them and they're coming hard. I get ready, mute the call and let them come. Ten feet or so from the call, the lead yote checks up, the tailing yote comes past the first one a foot or two and also checks up. Both turn and start off. I 'woofed', they both stop, I line up on the tailing yote and I dropped the hammer on the Bee. It spins makes a 20yd dash and drops. I 'ki-yi'd' on a mouth call, the second yote checked up, but I can't get the d@#%!n empty out of the Bee to reload so off it goes. Gloves aren't the best thing to have on when you're shooting a singleshot pistol. I go out to gather the dead yote and check the bullet damage and notice two things,1) the yote's mangy and 2) there isn't an exit. The Ol' Bee with cast bullets can still get it done. I was shooting a 55gr cast gc and 10.8grs of H4198.

Way to go Russell. I need to try to do some calling with my BFR Hornet. At least I won't have the glove problem with the second shot.

Hank, I've got a .32-20 'Buckeye' Ruger NMBH that I'm mounting a Leupy 2x on that'll take care of that glove problem for me. I've got a 2400/Lyman 3118 cast load worked up that gives me enough 'whomp' to take yotes out to 100yds or so. If I can get it dialed in and blooded, I'll have it out to Elk City the 27th.

I am going to go with James’s answer and say it was mostly luck. I aimed for the center of the chest but the yote jumped the string and I took out her throat. Luckily I keep very sharp broad heads.
PS, sorry for stealing your thread... LOL

Not yet, I still use a .22LR, either a Single-six, or a 45/22. i've got a Hornet barrel that I stating to shoot some cast bullets in that would be a dandy, I think.

48er,
I have quite a few 22 cal moulds; however, one that I like the best, in most of my guns ( 22 Jet, 22 Hornet, 22 K-Hornet, 224-32 FA, 221 Fireball, 223 Rem ) is the RCBS 55 grain, flatpoint, gas check. With my alloy they run about 19 Brinell, I use Lee tumble lube and Hornady or Lyman gas checks. Vels. run from 1,200 fps to about 1,800 fps. Accuracy is good to excellent in all of the guns.
