I have a 12" T/C Contender barrel with a 30 mm Ultra Dot Scope. I prefer to shoot cast lead with a gas check for hunting.

What is you bullet of choice: lead or jacketed?

Which cast lead do you use?

I shoot a 190 grain Ranchdog bullet w/gas check. I also have had great success with the RCBS 205 grain w/gas check.

My powder of choice is Winchester 296

I have a "Super 14" in .357 MAX and I mainly reload the Hornady 180 XTP and shoots a nice group and I get great performance on Deer with this bullet.

I shoot the Hornady 158 FP-XTP, exclusively, in the Max. I don't hunt hogs, if I did I might lean toward a 180 but not a hollow point. For deer and black bear, the 158 flat point does well. They used to make a 160 grain CL-SIL that also worked well.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

The Hornady 180X.T.P. should do very well on deer.

I'll second the Ranch Dog 359-190. I have a 12" Bellm rechamber for my T/C that is great.

I just found Handgun Hunter and it looks like I see a few of the Marlin owners group over here.

I'm in the process of deciding that. I have 50 180 gr XTP's over H110 ready for the range, but wanted to take some 173gr Keith style bullets (Beartooth bullets), and 180 gr FNGC to try out as well.

My manuals don't have data for those two bullets, so I guess I have to see if the newer Lyman manual does.

What powder do you use?

I also have a Ranch Dog TLC 359-190 mold. I have shot it in my two 35 caliber long guns, but plan on trying it in a 15" 357 Herrett & 12" 357 Maximum. The 357 Maximum loves the 205 gr RCBS mold.

Winchester 296 and a heavy role crimp give the best accuracy from my 357 Maximum.
