What do you guys peruse with the handguns now? I did some Squirrel hunting last year with a 22/45 and red dot. the dot did not work well for me so this year I put a 2-6 simmons on it and am itching to take it out set up this way. also have the 45/410 barrel that I missed a rabbit with last year and killed a squirrel or two with. I keep sseing those kill shot vids on the rabbits and it looks like a riot with dogs, never hunted them that way.

Plan on chasing a few squirrels, and maybe try to call in a coyote or two. Mainly I have started practicing for the next season. I have a bear hunt planned in September (my first time) and I have started practice sessions with that in mind.

In a way I lament the end of the deer season but as all things there are seasons for each activity. It is now time to pursue the hunters, so to speak. We had our annual club meeting where I checked a trail camera and refreshed a bait pile for coyote and other predators.
Soon I will sit in a pop up blind with a TC Contender in either 22 Hornet or 223 Remington at the right time.

Won't do much small game or varmint hunting, but rather need to see some projects finished and write several articles. First big shoot for me is when Erik and I head to Oregon for a LR shooting school in mid-May then the MOA LR handgun comp the third week in June.

For me it will be Rimfire Target Shooting at the Indoor Range until the end of March or so. In addition to that there are always Coyotes to try to call in. Then comes spring and that means Gophers for me.

Hogs, and maybe the occasional squirrel hunt. And a bunch of reloading projects!

Time to get back after the four legged hunters, then the woodchucks when they reappear in the spring and as always the steel targets are fun anytime of the year..

If any of you guys are interested in a cull hunt we have some opportunities at the Texana. Shoot me an email or PM and we can talk.

No hunting-just lots of reloading and scope management. Just picked up a few Leupolds and Nikon 2.5x8 variables so i will changing out some of my 2x and 4x scopes and doing lots of balistics and new load development.

I'll be casting boolits in my greenhouse when it's above freezing. Going to the range when it's above zero working up loads and practicing for spring bear in May. I really want to get a blackie or 2 this spring, didn't happen last year. We also have our eyes on a griz that's stomping around our moose hunting grounds. We tried to get him last October but he gave us the slip the last 400 yds of the stalk. That however was a rifle hunt. I saw him in sept moose hunting as well. We've got lots of griz running around and need to "cull" them. They eat lots of moose.

Not much in the way of hunting to do here in IL until August comes around.
Loading and work at the range until then. I have a new (to me) 12" 357max Contender to work with for next year's deer.

We've got lots of griz running around and need to "cull" them. They eat lots of moose. Amen my friend!! My time is being spent vacilating back & forth deciding if I will be using the 480 SRH or 450 Marlin Guide Gun to try & fill my costal brown bear tag this spring. Right now I'm thinking Guide Gun when hunting alone, SRH when I have backup. Also want to get serious about fly fishing & want to tie some flies this winter, but I know fishing doesn't count :-)

why does fishing not count. Because it aint hunting!!! For the last 20+ yrs (ever since I moved to Alaska) I've been convinced that fishing was something that guys that aren't successful hunters do. Last year I looked at my hunting success over the last 20 years & decided I better get serious about my fishing!!! The fly tying bench is going in right next to the reloading bench.

This sounds crazy, but a lot of the “off season” mischief we get into is actually field practice, honing, and gear evaluation for next years deer season. LOL

Sorry Vance, I thought it was funny too.
I have shot fish with a handgun before. Does that make it "count"? (Made my wife mad 'cause they kinda quit bitin' after that)
