The new Hornady manual#8 lists this bullet traveling at 2000 f.p.s(max load of course) out of the 500 Smith and Wesson mag, 8 3/8 barrel, just think about this in the Encore. The trajectory of this load(zero of 100 yards) gives a drop of -4.2 inchs at 150 yards and -12.3 at 200 yards and thats with the speed achieved from the 8 3/8 barrel speed,I bet that'll be a lot flatter out of the Encore!Hornadys charts are at http://www.hornady.com/ballistics

What do you plan on shooting with that light bullet, John?

I don't plan on shooting anything with it,I just thought many who shoot .50 cal. guns might be interested.I love my Lee 440WFN bullets and that is what I'm sticking with. What I was hinting about in the Encore is that load will probably shoot around 2200-2300 f.p.s. and thats with a 300 gr.slug compared to the .460 magnum.

I was just thinking how close the speed would be with this bullet(300 gr.) compared to the .460 mag. with their 200 gr. bullet, it would be interesting to see one of the gun writers do a comparison testing of these two cartridges.

I bought a box to test load for my 500, just have'nt got around to it but I was thinking it would be fast and probably very accurate and no doubt it would be a hammer. I don't know if it can fly as fast and flat as the 200 grainers in the 460 though.

I used them in my 500 H&R handi rifle. I dont remember the charge weight, but the powder was Ramshot enforcer. They shot very accurately as far as I can remember.

The only hunting I got to do with them was when a rancher friend of mine asked me while I was visiting to help her cull some of her "rouge" roosters. It was the only shooter I had with me at the time. She asked me if I had a gun with me and I told her yes that it was a 500 S&W mag. Her response was, Well that ought to kill a damned rooster now wont it!?! And so began the Great Northeastern Wyoming Chicken Safari of 2009.

She and I walked out to the chicken coop and she told me that she would point out the ones that she didn't want around any more. So when we got close she said that one there. The bird was only about 10 feet away. BOOM!!!! I had never seen a chicken explode before. Those FTX's expand very very fast.

She had me dispose of 3 or 4 more birds that day. Its been a while since Ive told this story, yes its true. Most don't belive it, but it is.

I never did get a chance to try the bullet at long range, although I had very high faith that it would perform very well. However its short range performance against unwanted roosters is undoubtably jaw dropping.

The local sporting goods store here in Gillette began stocking these bullets in the summer of 2009. Hornady did not have any load data published for them at the time, so I used a gunsmith buddy's quick load program with data for a similar bullet.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

The handgun is the badge of the free, self reliant, undaunted individualist who epitomizes the spirit of the United States of America.
