I recently purchased a Burris 3X12 AO handgun scope with the target turrets. I mounted it on a Contender barrel and noticed that I only have about 10 inches of eye releaf on the 3X setting and less on the top end. I tried to adjust the rear and moved the scope as far back on the barrel as possible with very little change. Should I expect more eye releaf with this scope or is this going to be normal with this scope? I like to shoot with my arms extended and my other scopes allow for this... BG

eye relief on 3x should be 10"-19"
eye relief on 12x should be 10"-12.5"

as you see, it is more critical on 12x. you should be able to extend arms on 3x power

i like to shoot...."non extended". i tend to be more accurate holding closer in. kinnda rest the left arm on my chest type deal......if i'm shooting off hand.

On 3x I am at 10" but on 10 - 12x I can barely see through it and I have it in my face maybe 4 - 5 inches. I sent an email to Burris customer service about it, hope to get a response tomarrow. If they say its normal I will probally list it for sale. I really can't see me getting any use out of it like it is. It may be just my style of shooting. I mounted a Nikon 2.5x8 in its place tonight and have no problems throughout the range of the scope...BG

it's not normal to be that close on 12x at all! let us know what they say.

It doesn't sound right to me either chiefbg. Being that close at 12x sounds like a "scope bite" waiting to happen. I would like to know what Burris said about it too.

chiefbg,

The 3 times I've had to deal with Burris customer service I encountered a surly attitude. You might have to be insistent and pushy to get them to take a look at it and then wait for several weeks to get it back. That's the type of service I've gotten from them.

Their handgun scopes are pretty good but they could take a few pages from Leupold's book on customer service.

That's pretty much the same impression I got of Burris "customer service?". They completely ignored the problem and gave a generic answer quoted directly from the book that answered nothing. Oh well, I spoke to a few other well informed shooters and based on what they told me I really believe the scope is fine but it just don't fit my style of shooting. It's on its way to Washington state(not the school) to a new home. BG
