This is crazy but Im on the hunt again! In curious about the recoil on a 30-30 Encore pistol . The only thing I have to compare it too is my Encore 243 pistol. I have shot a 454 before but not much. Could someone feel me in ?

I don't have a 30/30 in the encore, but I've got one in the contender. It will be less than the 243. Recoil shouldn't be an issue, especially with PAC's installed.

That's what I was told but the guy that told me loves to be beat up by recoil and why is it you don't here of too many Encore pistols?

lots of encores just not in that caliber. they were made to take advantage the higher pressure rounds like any of the 308 or 30-06 based rounds. custom barrel will be the only way to go. the encore is a heavier frame and larger contour barrel making a overall heavier gun. PACs and that heavy of a gun should not recoil bad. note should I do not have on and have not fired that round from a handgun before. I know my 7mm-08 shooting 120's is a pleasure to shoot and my .243 barrel hardly moves off the bags. are you dead set on the 30-30? the 308 can be loaded light and is factory chambered.

I do not have a 30-30 encore. However, I have had a 30-30 Contender and a 30-30 AI. "Actual recoil" is a simple physics phenomenon -- primarily, weight of gun, weight of projectile and velocity. However, "felt recoil" is an individual phenomon. Everyone is different. Recoil from a particular cartridge may be a great big push to me and another may be a very sharp jump. The next shooter may not sense the exact same thing.

IMHO, 30-30 is not bad in a contender, particularly not in a 14" bbl. In an encore it should be less because the gun is heavier. Thus, I would expect a 30-30 in an encore to be a "light" recoiling gun for me. Your mileage may vary.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

Wtroper, those are my thoughts exactly! In Short the 30-30 will do just fine. In fact a 30-30 AI would shine very well giving you 300 Savage ballistics.

Tyler, nice comments! I think the 308 is favored in the Encore but to each his own. I think a 308 using 307 brass would be even better. LOL

I think KRal is right on... I had a 243 in the Encore. When comparing it with recoil from my 30-30 AI “I” would say that they were both a pleasure to shoot!!! If recoil is something you are worried about, look at a 15in full bull barrel chambered in 30-30, (or maybe the AI.) It will be a little heaver to tote around, but the recoil is going to be like shooting a 223 IMHO

While I don't have an encore I have had contenders for 30+ years.
My favorite barrel is a 30-30 10 inch. Recoil has never been an issue and it is the barrel I teach the grandkids to shoot with.Put a set of Pachmayr on it and go.My brother has a 14 in with brake and it barely raises off the bag .Adding another pound for the encore and and it will be milder still.
Try the 130 gr speer h.p.in my 10in. it shoots under a dime@100 yds.The 35rem.is another good caliber and handles heavier bullets.

Recoil is a very subjective thing. It also matter on what you have shot already. If the 30/30 in a contender is all you have shot you may consider that a hard kicker, until you try something hotter!

I let a friend shoot my contender in 35 Remington. When he touched it off, it almost flew out of his hand! I was standing behind him and thought I was going to have to catch it before it hit the ground!

It also makes a difference on how you are shooting it. If you are shooting a handgun off hand, recoil may not be that bad. Sit down at a bench and shoot some groups and it becomes much harder, at least for me it does.

You learn quickly not to put your elbows on a hard surface when you bench a gun,or shoot the creedmore position. The elbow pads I wore shooting silhouette were necessary equiptment. Some bench setups are hard to get comfortable with like the public range I shot last saterday. The benches were low and you shoot thru a pipe
to keep shots from going over the berm. Hard on elbows no matter what you shoot. No offhand shooting alowed.

I dont reload, I wish I did . The reason for the 30-30 is I have it in a leveraction so I figured I could swap rounds( being cheap).
