I just went to the mailbox and found a letter from the Wisconsin DNR. I drew a bear tag for this fall. It's time to try and put one down with a handgun. I'm thinking about using my new Ruger Super Redhawk .480. September seems so far away now.

Congrats!!!
I think you are grabbing the best gun for the hunt. I love my 480 SRH. So far i've settled on a load that uses a 400gr hardcast @ 1150ish. That should do a great job on any bear.

That sounds like good news and a great choice. I carried my .480 as a back up but in all honesty it could have been the primary gun.

Can you use bait in Wisconsin?

Good hunting! A .480 or .475L with 400 gr. bullets is perfect! September will be here sooner than you expect it.

Congrats on you tag! I'm gonna be the odd ball, on gun selection. I think you need to break in that Predator!!!!! You could use the 480 as a backup....

I'll have to save that for Michigan deer. Wisconsin has a minimum barrel length of 5 1/2".

I think WI measures the 5 1/2 from muzzle to firing pin so in a revolver you can count the length of the cylinder. See the regs.
I wish I could get Drawn I hunt in Barnes plenty of bears in the area.
