Hi guys some really good info on this board! Ok here is my story I hunt mostly in the woods of PA. And after lugging my .270 rifle again and again it hit me why not a handgun. (not realizing the fun it could be). So my search started and I found you site.
CDNN had a SRH in 480 ruger for $479. ok by the time I sold my Glock 27 they sold out. But Cabelas had 3 for $599. I passed a few days and received a $100 coupon off and bingo picked it up last night!!
I did read about the sticking in the 6 shot and it has been out of production but a lot of people seem to like the caliber a lot. So off to buy some bullets and brass and start my journey into some handgun hunting.

Welcome to the forum & the addiction Joe!! And welcome to the 480 club! We definetly need more members. In my mind it is the perfect handgun hunting caliber for MY needs. I think you will really enjoy yours. My 7.5" 480 SRH wears an Ultradot 30mm red dot sight & is my favorite handgun.

Fugi, for the last 15 years I have traveled down to potter county to deer hunt, I use my 308 encore for the long stuff and my 9.5 SRH in 480 for the close work. I hike 3 miles from the truck and really like having both hands free. do you handload, welcome to the 480 club it is a great round.

Yes I do reload, Thank God! Right now trying to put together the dies and other parts. When I picked it up I couldn't bring myself to pay $62 for 20 Hornady. Now I feel like I have tires and no car to put them on. haha
No ammo to shoot, if I was in the woods right now all I could do is throw the gun at the deer. lol
I hear the best Turkey is in Potter County and Pike. Are you going for turkey?

Fuji, one recomendation I wpuld make (& every 480 SRH owner I know also makes) is get a pair of Hogue Tamer grips. The Tamers have a sorbethane insert that makes the gun down right pleasent to shoot.

I did read about the sticking in the 6 shot The "sticking" was primarily due to some fellers pushing the envelope a little. If you keep your loads within reason you shouldn't have a problem. I second the Hogue Tamer grip suggestion. The 480 rocks!
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I just look at those grips so thanks for the info I will order. And I bet the sticking was from pushing the limits also. Now I just need brass and bullets secured the dies already.
