What kind of kick are you getting with a 100 grain load?

What kind of groups are you getting at 50 and 100 yards?

Mine is a 15" SS barrel from the Custom Shop. Fiber optic sights and quite accurate. It's kick compares to a 44 Mag. Open sights gives me a 2" group at 50 yards.

Two inch group with open sights at 50 yards is great. Only a kick of a 44 Magnum is even better.

T/C 320 gr. Maxiball pushed by 100 grains loose powder took this 6X6 bull with one shot. There are couple of good scenes in my video with the 209X50, including the recoil of the 209x50 in action and a doe antelope kill with it.

Do they make a muzzleloading barrel for the contender? I have an old traditions muzzleloading barrel that I wanted to hunt with but was not very happy with the groups. I may try i again with the new sabots on the market. That is one nice bull.

T/C has discontinued the ML barrel for the Encore, I do not believe they made one for the Contender. You probably will have to go the custom barrel route.

I have a factory 15 inch 209X50 barrel also. What a blast! I have taken deer and hog with mine. Of all the loads I have tried mine likes 100 grs. of 777 and a 45 cal. 300 gr. XTP best. A few years ago I got a doe at about 100 yards with it. Just a thought, if you can find a cheaper used barrel have a good gunsmith cut it down to a shorter lenght. Good luck and keep us posted.

T/C MADE a Rifle Barrel for a Contender.
If you search one out you could have it CUT down.
I had a Custom 16" one made from MGM.

I have a 50 cal ml barrel from tc and a second encore frame and barrel in 45 cal. The 45 cal is a cut down Bergara ml barrel at 16". shoots dead center 260 gr. bullets over 90 grains of BH209 into a 3-4" group at 100 yds. I shot 3 bullets at 150 at a life size deer target and hit 1 shot in the heart and 2 in the lungs close to the heart. I had worked up from 75 grains to 90 and would have gone further but hunting season came.
The cost of the Bergara barrel was $166 at Natchez.com-cost to cut and crown was $55 at local gunsmith.
My main concerns when working the load was accuracy and unburnt powder. Put a sheet out in front of the bench and at 90 gr. saw no unburnt powder. That's just the bh209, no other powder tried.

Here are 2 pics of the cut down Bergara barrel.

I have one, I shoot roundballs out of it now with 50 grains of Goex FFFG black powder. shoots very good groups.

I am going to run some T/C cheap shot sabots through it as I have found a bunch of them on sale and hope they do well too.

I have shot some Hornady XTP 300 grain out of her but she does buck a bit with the 300's, but groups are great and are worth while putting up the recoil for the knock down power of the big XTP's.

I bought my friend a new 209x50 15" barrel recently and he is going to use his hunting loads in it and I think he shoots powerbelts in his rifle .

Keep looking and you should find a factory barrel for sale. Be patient.
