I have hunted deer in KS and TX with rifle for many years and decided to add some challenge by switching from rifle to handgun. I got a good deal on a Ruger SRH .44, 9 1/2". Love the gun but have had a bad experience with the NCStar Red Dot the dealer talked me into. I would like to get a scope as my eyes are not good enough for iron sights. The internet is full of biased reviews...I don't know who to believe so I thought the handgun veterns on this sight would have some good ideas/recommendations. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm no expert but I've had good luck with Bushnell 2x6 variable scopes. Both the Trophy and Elite models. I also have a Weaver 2.5x8 that has not given any problems.

I've used a weaver but I'll say this if you like the red dot,buy the ultra 30,you want regret it.I prefer irons but have shot whits with the red dot and I can see why several posters on this site give it high praise.

The handgun scope with the least problems that I`ve had or have read about from other owners is Leupold...

I have many different handgun scopes. My choice for fixed power is Leupold. I now use 4X on almost everything. However, I started with 2X.
The Bushnell Elite 2x6 is also a good scope, IMHO.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

I've got a 2x7 Burris on my SRH...close to 200 rounds thru the gun with no mechanical issues. I tend to leave the scope set on 4x, as the magnification on lower power doesn't seem right to me (almost makes a deer look smaller, if that makes any sense). I'm very tempted to try the Ultra Dot 30 this year.

If you are not shooting much past 100 yards I would go with an UltraDot. Scopes are fine for longer range but they are not as quick on target as a dot, and dots are better in early and late light which are the best hunting times.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I have a Simmons 4X32 on my Encore & so far so good.

When it comes to scopes I always go with Leupold.
For red dot types, I am no expert but have had good luck so far with the JP Enterprises Jpoint on my FA 454. Not much bigger than open sights. I decided to try one after reading about Greg Richter using one on his 500 WE.

In my mind the only two brands I would consider (especially for the heavy hitters) are Burris and Leupold. I have a 2-7 burris and a 1.5-4 burris. maybe not quite as sexy as the leupold, but i really like the versatility of a variable, and the 1.5-4 is right on as far as what the average handgunner needs. just my opinion

A Weaver,Burris,Leupold,T/C; take your pick. All would work well on a 44 mag. It all depends how much you want to spend. In order by price it would be Lwupold being the most then Burris,Nikon,T/C,Weaver,Simmons. I would not go below a Simmons when it comes to quality. Anything below it is pretty cheap.

If you want a dot sight then go with either a Bushnell,Tasco Pro Point ao an Ultra Dot. A 44 mag. is not a real heavy hitter especially in the Super Redhawk frame. Don't get me wrong, the 44 does recoil but not like a 454,475,500 etc.

On my SBHH I have a Burris Fastfire and love it. On my Encore 243 I have a Burris 3x12. Its for long range/ shooting stick shooting. The Fastfire is for that quick target acquisition short range.
