I am still having difficulties with my ruger 44 hunter. I mounted a bushnell scope on it and it shoots low at 100 yards. The scope is maxed out in elevation.

1 Has anybody had issues like this with bushnell or other scopes?

2 Do some scopes simply not fit on some guns?

3 Should I break down and get a leupold?

I have mounted many scopes onto rifles but until now have never shot a scoped handgun just open sights or red dot so I am getting frustrated.
Any input will help.

I don’t have a scoped Hunter model, but I do have quite a few scoped handguns and have never had this problem. JMHO

1 had the issue once in many years with one ncstar 2x7 cheapie scope. replaced it with a burris and all was fine.

2 some scopes do not fit all guns, but it is usually a matter of length or turret spacing

3 you can get a leupold if you want, they are great scopes. but there should not be any thing wrong with your bushnell. they are decent for the $. i have a 2x6 on my 35rem deer gun right now that has been fine for quite a few hunting seasons.

........UNLESS your scope is messed up just because "blank happens". all scopes have the possibility of going bad.

are you sure you got the right rings? are they the same height? super redhawk rings are 2 different heights for example.

The rings are the same size but the mounts on the black hawk are supposed to be that way. I have heard in the past, many people own black hawks. What kinds of scopes do most have mounted on these? I will work on posting a pic.

1. nikon encore 2x20 max adj of 120

2. Leupold 2x20 max adj 86

3. bushnell 2x6 32 max adj 50 or 70

4. most others are less.

I am thinking of getting the nikon due to its max adj 120 moa as apposed to the others with less max adj. If you have read my prev post you know I am having issues zeroing my gun in at 100 yds. Is a 2x adequate for a 44mag wheel gun. And is my reasoning for getting the nikon accurate. Thoughts pls.

maybe a nikon would cure it, but the issue seems to be with the rings or mounting....UNLESS the scope is broken. otherwise there should be no problem in using the bushnell. bushnell has a limited warranty. it might be worth seeing what they have to say. contact them....send it back if needed.

have you thought about sending the scope to bushnell to be checked out?....or performing you own tests to see if it is working properly? personally i wouldn't waste $ on another scope until the one you have is verified bad.

some desire more than 2x for a revolver. i am fine with 2x burris on my 2 rugers for the most part. i like the 21' wide@100 fov. i believe burris and leupold may be the ony 2 that wide. nobody can tell you what you like. you can only find out for yourself.

I called bushnell and they said they would check it out but it takes months and I have to pay for the shipping. I already had to send the gun back to ruger and have it remachined, i have grown impatient and just want to shoot the damn thing. As far as the rings and mounting. I dont know, I have taken it off and put it back together twice. everything is level and fit. There isnt really any other way the ruger rings can go on. I do agree with U i dont really want to buy another scope and have the same issue.

well....i guess another option is to buy a new scope, ship the bushnell back to be checked/fixed, then sell it when it returns if you still don't want it.
burn some ammo with iron sights till then! impatience has no place in the gun hobby. cure it!

Another alternative is that I will lend you a scope to try. If it will not zero, then the issue is with the gun and/or mount.

I had a gun - scope years ago that had this problim.
A freind worked with me on it and we wound up ,
Cutting Strips (2) of Soda can and placing under the bottom of the scope in the REAR mount ,
That fix is still on that gun and it was done over 15 years ago.

DONT Put to many under it You Can Damage the scope this way !

I think Burris has rings with Inserts for this type of problim.

If you don't mind me asking what did ruger have to remachine on your blackhawk? I also have one and my front ring does'nt seem to want to set all the way down on the barrel rib.

They had to deepen the front groove for the front ring. Take a look at the groove on the top of the integrated ring mount. Compare the front ring groove to the rear ring groove. They should be the same depth. If not that is likely the problem. It sounds like the same issue I had.

Did ruger stand behind it? because i am certain that is the same issue that i'm having with mine.Did you have to pay shipping back to them. When you got it back did everything seem to fit properly then?.

I wonder, if the front ring wouldn't seat properly that this may very well be your problem. It the rings aren't seating then it may be causing the front ring to ride low or high, probably low enough that its hard to measure. It may be low enough that this is your problem. The only ruger I dealt with till yesterday that had the integral scope bases was my daughters compact 7mm-08. Have had zero problems with that and her Leuopold scope. I am now the proud owner of a Bisley hunter in 45LC. I just ordered a Bushenell 3200 scope to go on it. I have a 3200 that sits on my 6.5 jDJ contender and love it.

I will keep you posted cfish2, i am going to call ruger tommorow and find out what they have to say about the problem. It sounds to me that they may have a problem. Mine is a new 44mag bisley super blackhawk. i love the pistol but i would like to get it right, so the ring issue won't be a problem with sighting it in. I wonder what the normal turnaround time is normally on a repair with ruger?.

I was very pleased with Ruger's service. They paid for shipping and had it fixed and back in less than two weeks.

That sounds good! I just got the pistol about a month ago and need to start shooting it.

Just exactly what bullet and load is shooting low? Are you shooting light bullet, fast loads?
