I've decided that there is simply no way to stand not having a new barrel for the encore. I picked a 223 for the fun factor and I've been lacking a varmit caliber. The plan is an MGM 14" tube but I found myself in a snag when selecting a twist rate. Id like to use varmit grenades which if memory serves are 36g. How fast a twist should work? I still have tons of 53g slugs to burn up too. Any tips wold be very welcome. Thanks

It is hard to overstabilize a bullet so I lean to the faster twists. I'd entertian an 8.5 or 9, but certainly no slower than a 10.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

That's about what I was thinking. They suggested a 12:1 but that seems slow.
Love me or hate me. Either way your thinkin about me.

I talked to Kerry @ MGM last week on this same subject-I have been planing to order a .223 Encore barrel.
He said no less than 1-10" in a 14" tube.
My guess is that will be fine for anything under a 55gr
If you wanted larger bullets you may want to go a bit more.
Another key item if you plan to use big heavy bullets (does not sound like you do) in the .223 you may want him to cut in some extra freebore so you can streach the OAL a bit
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

That's about what I was thinking. They suggested a 12:1 but that seems slow. I think that was/is the T/C factory rate, which is okay for most factory ammo, but if dropping the highdough on a custom I'd want more flexibility.
