Lynn Thompson has a new DVD out hunting the outback of Australia. He is hunting with a Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 mag. with iron sights, shooting Hornady's 300 gr. X.T.P.'s. He harvest 28 buffalo and 52 hogs/80 animals taken alltogether. You can buy the video off of Amazon,I think its a very fine video with action all the way through, its app. 1 hour 48 minutes long.I'll post a picture as soon as I can get the wifes camera,I paid 17 dollars and 6.99 for shipping,23.99 total.

I bought that video last year (in fact, I think we discussed it at leangth here somewhere), and have to honestly say that I am impressed with Lynn's shooting. Multiple targets on the run seem to be his forte. Good stuff!

I was just amazed at the penetration he was getting with the Hornady 300X.T.P. bullets on buffalo.

I talked to his outfitter and he told me that they more often than not didn't expand, hence the great penetration. Keep in mind that the Hornady load is loaded to really subdued velocities (1,150 fps if I can recall). Worked like a charm!

Looks like a standard Redhawk to me. I only saw the preview, but it looked pretty sweet.

He uses both a Redhawk and a Super Redhawk in the video -- both in .44 mag.

Whitworth, wasn't that bullet developed more for penetration than expansion,I'm thinking I read that somewhere, one of Hornadys articles I believe but don't really remember.

The fact remains that it's a hollow-point. I think if their intent was to create a bullet for uncompromising penetration, it wouldn't have a hollow cavity as that profile is far from optimal for penetration. Personally I like that they don't expand much. They do work, though!

I almost wonder if the designed it to be optimized in a 444...

I just watched this today. It's shot very much in the "run and gun" style, made popular by Mark Sullivan. Not a huge fan of just shooting tons of game (of any kind) and leaving it lay, but to each his own. The film was entertaining but it's more of a shooting film than a hunting film.

Whitworth,it is the Speer 300 grainer ,I was going through my Speer manual last night and came across the info for that bullet in the .44 mag, they said it behaves like a heavy cast bullet for the guy who doesn't want to invest in bullet casting equipment.

It's Hornady factory 300 grain ammo that Lynn used. I like that they don't expand much, but the hollow point isn't optimal for deep penetration. I have used these loads successfully on hogs and they didn't leave me needing or wanting more!

Yeah,I was thinking that I had read somewhere that the 300 grainer was made for penetration like a cast bullet and thought that it was Hornady but it was the Speer manual where I read that info. and I wouldn't be supprised if Hornady made their bullet for the same job(penetration as opposed to expansion).
